Okay I know about this meltdown and everything, and I found out there was a 20/20 type thing there. I just don't know what station did it. NBC, CBS, or ABC I know that dane rathers (sp) went inside the big dome they built over the reactor that had the melt down area. I just want to know who was it that did this report. ALSO: Did ya know that the other reactor at chernobly is still running eight now, and there is 4 other reactors built just like the one that had the meltdown....pretty freaky eh? I also posted this at another forum but you know just in case. Also is there anywhere I can get free video reports and such on it. |

Wow, long time ago, 18 years, I was five... You couldn't eat spinach for some time, it was contaminated too badly... The fallout had covered about the whole of Euope. No high concentrations, but high enough to be unhealthy. |

What's even weirder is how they covered the reactor with cement and bunkered it in. The Russian military got their army, and had men, work on making the bunker. Each man had to work for 3 minutes, no more no less. Once their 3 minutes were up, they left and were never asked to do it again. Most of the solders who where there for the 3 minutes died ![]() Radiation in a partical and is spread by air. About a month after Chernobyl melt down radiation had spread as far as Canada, it never hit the USA though. Recently, places like switzerland are getting a lot of cancer cases, which are from the radiation from the Chernobyl accidnet. want to know more? I'll tell you some more later

three mile island was interesting as well. I remember hearing abou pres. jimmy carter (sp) going up there with his wife to prove there was nothing to worry about. I mean he did have a degree in that field and the secret service tried to get him to not go. I always wondered why they called them secret service...they arn't that secret about anything.
because today they are still using out dated reactors. that were made the same as the one that had the melt down (reactor 4) If you had a reactor that old still in use is like having a death wish. |

If I recall correctly, chernobyl didnt really have anything to do with the design. It was poor maintenance and the safety systems were shutdown while some experiment was happening or something like that. The only real change in the design of reactors that can prevent chernobyl from happening again is that those safety mechanisms cannot be shut down. |

Another thing I heard was that the operators hadn't enough sleep. So they reacted too slow to the overheating of the reactor core... hmm... Had 5 hours of sleep this night... *Stefan pushes the |

they decided to run a test to see how long they could still get power if they were to shut that reactor down. They decided to do this because they had to shut the reactor down anyways. It was both human error and reacor error that happen. The same as three mile island. Funny the reactor walls are made of iron and cement and the core melted threw that...thats gotta be pretty damn hot. you know there will be another nuclear meltdown sometime in the future. It's bound to happen...and will. this here is interesting, bunch of pictures of the aftermath http://www.kiddofspeed.com/chapter2.html |

That site and that woman is worldfamous for her documentation of the the chernobyl accident. There was cases where people showed about 20 pictures of the clean up crew fixing the place up within' 12 hours of the meltdown. All the men and women who appeared in the photos have died prematurely, along with the cameraman.
Not sure about this, but after a big meltdown like that, I don't think any reactors will be running as the place is still soo radioactive that anyone who tries to work in there will not last the usual 8 hour shift. It will be like this for thousand's of years.
It's not freaky, this accident was just human error. It happened when the night shift crew was testing the alarm system of the reactor and they had accidently did something to make the core overheat. If guidelines and regulations are adhered throught these other reactors, I'm sure there won't be another chernobyl accident. |
