Sounds like some spyware has changed your background to an active desktop to me, (active dektop is a HTML page on your desktop). To try and fix your background, go to Control panel > Display > Desktop tab > Customise desktop... > Web tab, and in the listbox on that page, nothing should be checked. So uncheck everything and click OK and OK again, see if that works. That's in Windows XP BTW, i'm not too sure with others, they might be similar Not sure if that'll work, but I don't know what else to suggest :/ |

Definately spyware. This is the result of all that stuff that showed up on your adaware.
Actually, you can use Firefox, which is better. |

I wrote you the pm that none of these anti-spyware things are going to solve your problem with the homepage changing. There not built to kill the processes in browsers. I dont belive so because you say you have ran ad-aware several times. These programs were meant to help but if they keep coming back and changing your homepage you have problems like dialers, malware, viruses and Coolweb search varients. Posting a log will be a few steps to clean out your pc but it will remove the pop-ups and such. You need to post a HJT log. It will be able to kill the problem in a snap. Its much easier and yes mozilla is better than IE especially if you go to a bad site. Not that im saying you do but these things dont come from good sites. Also you can get them from downloads. I only download at sites like winsite, zdnet, major geeks and download.com. Most of them there have no viruses and have reviews. Hope you will take me up on my offer to help. I have been studying for a while on this and am getting better at it. I still have much to learn though. Im not pushing you or trying to force you to give me a log. Just wanted to say that. I dont care its up to you if you want a messy computer. See you later. |

It worked for me when I had that problem. I ran the latest version of everything (that's the key) and it got rid of the hijacking of my homepage. Also in Spybot make sure you immunizise (sp?). And block bad pages. Ad-aware SE works well to and catches most things that Spybot misses (and vis versu). Good luck. :lights: |

you still got a few lerking in your IE browser and nothing will take it out but HJT. I will just post how to do a HJT log here and whoever may need it. Ad-aware wont get rid of some of the worst stuff that hides in browsers. Just wanted to say that. This is just what I have on my site its not for advertising or anything: If you have been getting lots of pop-ups and been having problems with :Spyware,Browser hijackers, adware and malware then you need to post a log. Please make sure you that you are fully updated. Please go to http://www.windowsupdate.com and run windows update. That will save us time! Now how to post the log! To make the log please do the following: Please make a folder anywere you want it (and is easy to use and find!) and lable it Hijackthis. Next please download Hijackthis from here and save it to the folder you just made: http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html Now please run the program from the folder you made. To do this open Hijackthis.exe and hit scan. When it finishes hit "save log" button. A notepad will now open with your log on it. Please hit edit, then select all then hit copy. Or highlight everything and hit ctrl+c to copy. Now create a new topic of your own in the hijackthis forum and post your log by hitting ctrl+v to paste it into the box. Please give a short but as detailed as possible paragraph about what has happened and what you have done. Also please do not edit any of the log. We will need the whole log to find the problem. Your now ready to post a log. Goodluck! |
