MSN Messenger Problem

Well, I recently bought a new computer, and I have linked it up to my original computer using an ethernet cable to be able to connect to the internet.

My problem comes with MSN Messenger, I am randomly getting signed out every so often and I sometimes do not recieve messages people have sent me. I have an idea that its got something to do with the fact that im accesing the internet through a LAN but I do not know for sure.

Can anybody suggest anything to get arround this problem. I may just switch to trilian though, and see if that works.

Thanks

Moogle

EDIT: I am also using Norton Antivirus 2005 but do not have a specific firewall installed ( probably not the best thing to announce )

As long as the internet connection is running through the router properly, there should be no problems that have anything to do with the other computer. :ermm:

Turning off the auto-sign in isn't going to do anything for any problems that you are having. I know that MSN doesn't work right for me a lot because it is junk, so I stopped using it. But now that I have Trillian, even though the MSN service is still junk and it will randomly sign off and back on sometimes, it doesn't happen as often and isn't really a big deal. Just use Trillian, it's the best.

he said he linked the 2 pc's up.
so where do you see that router?
and i had problems with auto sign-in. caused about the same stuff.

but i guess you still have those problems.
try downloading new msn.
(NOT the 2.0 beta, that one s*cks)

!me thinks a bit

hmm....
does msn work right on your old pc?
if it does, than problem must be in network(duh) (don't think trillian wil word any better then)
so then, check network.
(find some documentation on it (non-microsoft is best :P ) )

Yes it does work on my other computer, and I am using the latest stable release of MSN ( 6.2 ).

Thats correct, I do not have a router as of yet.

What "documentation" are you refering to then?

I personally believe its something to do with the network settings or my Norton Anti Virus 2005, i have disabled the instant messenger protection yet the problem stil persits.

Im still searching the net looking for answers, but im getting really bored now, stupid MSN.

If you have Norton Internet Security the firewall will snooker everything connected to it.

anti virus can't be a problem.
(don't think winXP firewall would blok msn.)

but it works on other pc, so problem must be in network.
no firewalls or anything you say.
then only thing i can think of right now is some wrong setting in msn.

countducky's idee sounds worth a try i'd say.
