Hi Midnight Temptress ![]() Here are some of the big advantages of using Firefox (or Opera, or Mozilla Suite) over IE.
Firefox is free from http://getfirefox.com. Opera has a free version too (http://opera.com), but it has ads... so I'd try Firefox. Can't hurt to give it a whirl! And I'm available to help you out if you get stuck

whats with the hostility man? just because they use the same engine, it doesnt mean they are the same thing. do u consider netscape, opera, mozilla, and FF the same thing? |

No, but its clear that they are better than IE. Even Mircosoft's Security Manager uses Firefox! http://browsehappy.com/why/ |

They don't just "use the same engine". Slimbrowser, Maxthon, and Avant all REQUIRE IE to run. They are "wrapper scripts" or "shells" for IE, that's all. Opera doesn't use Gecko. Check your facts. Netscape, Fx, and MozSuite are completely discrete browsers that have no dependencies on any other component. This is why they are true browsers. Edit: Hi Renée

I'll add to that: In Firefox: - You can disable irritating blinking text and marquees- that's gotta be good - No horrible Active X controls work. Therefore no Active X controls = better security and privacy - You can stop annoying Javascripts that change the window size position etc. Very useful. - You can force annoying popup windows from links into new tabs - no need for a plugin - Integrated RSS in your bookmarks - very handy if you don't want to use Thunderbird or a seperate RSS reader Sorry, just couldn't resist  |

im not saying THAT! who here has ACTUALLY used Slimbrowser? now who of u have actually used it without a biased chouvenism directed towards FF? if they are all IE then Opera, FF, mozilla, and netscape are the same thing, and if so, why do we have more than 2 options? oh yes it is because they are different from eachother within specific realms. all browsers parse code, all browsers render(except lynx...pure text) they all do essentially the same thing yet are ALL different, and this is why all sugestions are valid to the addition of browsers, otherwise this is only a topic to prove that FF is god by rubbing it in like salt in a wound. this is like separate but equal...and since all browsers do essentially the same thing, they are all separate but equal. and since they are all separate but equal...then you are all racists. i just proved anyone who believes that all browsers who use the IE engine are the same, are rascist...oh im good |

Except for a few features, if you've used IE, you've used Slimbrowser. This is because if you goto a site in IE and in Slimbrowser, they will look exactly thr same, 100% of the time. If you goto a site with FireFox and with slimbrowser/ie, there is a good chance they'll look different, because the engine is different, and firefox's rendering engine is far better than ie/slimbrowser. The same goes for opera, mozilla suite and netscape. They use different engines (except for mozzila suite and firefox, they both use Gecko). Opera != FireFox != netscape. IE == slimbrowser == avant. What you fail to realise is that both slimbrowser and IE are just (effectivly) a skin for IE, with perhaps a few extra features like tabbed browsing. The underlying code is still exactly the same, still have the same security issues, still have the same poor rendering core. Opera, FireFox and netscape are totally different browsers, different engine's, different core code. The ways that FireFox and Opera are different is totally different to how IE and Slimbrowser are different. If you do not realise that, then perhaps you should take a long look at why you still use the internet when you cannot understand basic concepts of how a browser is different to another. The only way most browsers are the same, is that they 'browse the internet'. The way in which they do so is often vastly different, except in IE/slimbrowser/avant's case. They are, as Seth said, Shell's of IE, and hence are IE with a different look. Please, turn off your computer, get a pair of scissors and cut any cable connecting your computer to anything else. Then go outside and breathe some fresh air. It'll do you some good. Trust me. |
