The PSP US date will be March 24 for $249.99.
Heres the news:
Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. (SCEA) has finally revealed its full launch plans for the PlayStation Portable in North America. Sony's handheld will hit stores on March 24, and unlike in Japan where consumers have the choice of either a basic pack or a value pack, only one SKU will be offered in this market—the PSP Value Pack at the price point of $249.99 ($299.99 CND).

The PSP Value Pack contains one PSP unit, a 32 MB Memory Stick Duo, headphones with remote control, a battery pack, AC adaptor, soft case and cleaning cloth, and a UMD sampler disc featuring movie and music clips as well as multiple non-interactive game demos. Additionally, the first one million PSP Value Packs shipped will come with a bonus UMD video release of the popular feature film Spider-Man 2 from Sony Pictures Entertainment.

What do you think this means for the DS?

absolutely nothing because they are two different systems i personally would never buy PSP because i just cant get the thought in my head about using a portable gaming device that isnt made from nintendo... i have seen so many portable gaming devices but the best is gameboy. and DS i think is still cool mainly because of the games that are on the system. but ppl who prefer PSP will probably buy it for its extra features.

people who buy a psp, like me, do that mostly for the games(if not they're fools :P ).
and no wonder that you liked the gameboy most, the rest was simple mullet that could never match up to the MONEY of nintendo. something that sony can, they can afford to lose money AND they have enough money and experience to make such things.

i don't care wich handheld will sell more actually. if i'm correct PSP is outselling the DS by now but hey, as long as they both sell enough to make the developers produce more games, fine with me. i'll get both.

I'm getting both, but I think Sony is desparate. I mean all those stuff?? What for? The DS is much cheaper, so oviusly people will go for the cheaper one. And why'd they bring up the price so much? The last time I heard it was just 149.99 like the DS, but the PSP bieng 249.99, that's nearly $100 dollars more!

It appears Sony is using a cheaper Samsung LCD screen in the newer PSP's. The original "launch

shipment" had a Sharp screen.

Sharp: sharp wink.gif, vivid colors and a good viewing angle
Samsung: blueish worse colors and a bad viewing angle

Kinda sucks...
clicky

can anyone confirm this is true, or rather that this is bullmullet?

i don't think it's really that troublesome. i think they went straight to sony when they heared of this and they feel that the buttons reacts a bit different.

I'm interested to see how the PSP performs, and what games come out/look like on it. I wouldn't buy one, handhelds aren't really my thing, but it looks to be a pretty nice piece of harware, one that will only further handheld gaming.

I think the reason they moved up the date, is to compete with DS...

they ran out of chips to secure a nice amount of units at a launch here.
it's a japanese company, they don't give a poopy about europe, they just release it here when they have some spare time.

but releasing it LATER to compete with the DS sounds a bit weird, the one release earlier will sell more, simply because those who are not sure wich one to buy will buy the first one that comes out.

or you must release it very much later, so you have more time to work on the thing, but i doubt they will
