this has probably been said before, but i dont think boards should be deleted for something members did. I have many reasons. One, if a spammer wanted a board deleted they could just post porn on said forum and report it. Two, the members have no motivation to follow the IF TOS. Three, the members might not be aware that something is against the TOS. Four, Admins cant always control what members are posting. If I go on vacation and im the only admin and a member posts porn, if i dont delete it in time, my board gets deleted. I think that instead of IF staff seeing a TOS violation and deleting a board, they shut it down temporarily, and investigate the problem. Then if they judge that the admin was to blame for the TOS violation they shut the forum down.

I think this has probably been said before though.

That's why you get moderators to check the content, so you don't spread yourself too thin when you have trouble with a member or spam.

ok, i have a scenario, most of your boards members, all of its admins, and all of its moderators are located in the west coast of the US, and a couple members living in great britain. The members in great britain decide your site needs porn, so they post some. They dont know its a violation of the TOS, meanwhile, some other member in (insert place here) sees it and reports your board. Its midnight or w/e in the US so all the admin and mods are asleep. so no1 is there to delete it in time, and bam u lose your board. Does that seem fair?

Hi there,

Depending on the level of violation, you should usually receive a private message from our violations team stating you'll need to remove the content. Obviously if your board is filled with violations, we won't bother to message you, but more often than not you will receive a warning.

Please also be aware we are not obliged to give you this warning, as stated in the ToS.

Basically, nothing you described happens.
I don't know why people think we're so stupid that we'd shut down boards just because some jerk posted porn or whatever and then reported it.
Your forum will only be shut down if it deserves to be shut down.
It's that simple.
That said, don't go off and leave your forum unmoderated for extended periods of time, or we'll assume you're ignoring us if we give you a warning that a violation has occured.
If nothing else, turn it offline while you're away.

I've seen boards with close to porn and lots of language. Have they been warned and ignored it or are they still within the TOS?

I've heard that staff goes around boards checking for TOS violations (I'm not sure if this is right, correct me if I'm wrong).

So they're board could be closed anytime.

If you have any specific queries about particular boards, feel free to send an anonymous ToS report from the invisionFree main page.

That scenario is very unlikely to happen, if you have moderators and admins on your forum it would be a very low chance that they would all happen to live on the West Coast and all of the spammers live in Britian. When you own a forum and you are scared that your members will post porn on it then make some board guidelines stating that posting porn isn't allowed so your members will be aware of that. If someone does post porn on your forum they won't get too far, one of your moderators will see it in time and do what they need to do, theres no need to get so worried about this.

The TOS is a bit vague on some things on purpose, according to DuffMan.
Note that it says excessive profanity, which allows for a "normal" amount of it, but not for people to go crazy with it.
It's pretty much a judgement call that IF Staff have to make, and wouldn't normally be used as the only reason to close a board.
But generally, when there's excessive profanity, there are also other violations going on.
Just the way it goes.

Also, I would guess that something like 90% of the forums that get closed for porn are closed because it was the admin posting it, or creating a forum for it, or ignoring it when members or other staff did it.
But don't think you can be sneaky and have members post it and then pretend to get upset and delete it later.
If you're doing that, or have a chronic problem with members doing it and you don't take actions like disabling uploads or limiting guest posting rights to stop it, DuffMan will put the smackdown on you.
