A blast from the past.

Thatsa why they need to make DNA FingerPrint bans  I had a few members like that before no idea what to do since they did it at school so if I banned the IP I would also be banned from it when I was at school.

If people would start behaving a little more responsibly and practicing decent security, the "hackers" ruining their forums wouldn't be able to do anything and would get bored and leave IF on their own.  :r

Yeah, but if a hacker wants your forum deleted they'll probably succeed, though trojans and hacks, etc. Sometimes there's basically nothing you can do, even if you ban them.

That's not true at all.

And yes, MedeivalStarGazer, I guess I am blaming you and other admins this happens to, not that I would have put it that way, but also"hackers" as well, of course, and anyone else involved.
Not saying that to be mean, just accurate.
I'm sorry it happened and all, but IF forums cannot be hacked, so in one way or another, it was your negligence which allowed the "hacker" to gain access and mess things up. :/

Everyone should also note that posting the IP's of others likely violates IF's TOS rules protecting privacy.

:yoda: is the big fish of 'hacking' right now. Sad thing is, the guy's an actual hacker, not a password cracker. Waste of life though, and banned by the yahoo! company.

Aaaaanyway, glad you caught it in time.

Remember what phrank said about privacy? that includes names

Who *exactly* is :yoda:? Surely you are not referring to the YuGiOh character?

Yes. IF Boards cannot be hacked. Only if you're stupid and make a stupid password.

Okay, believe what you want.

I'll believe what's true, thanks. ;)
I'd be more than happy to make a forum just for these so-called hackers to try to hack, and award the "winner" $50 or something, though that would be encouraging TOS violations, so Duffy probably wouldn't appreciate it.

Fact is, if these "hackers" could do anything at all, they'd have done it to this forum long ago and would still be doing it several times a week.
And they'd likely have gone after my forum and those of the other staff members as well, since most chronic rule-breakers tend to not like us for some reason. :r

That's not true either.
There are several ways that someone can gain access to your account, and a stupid password is only one of them, though it is the most common, by far.

probably because IF staff tried to ban them, that would be enough to make someone try to crack his/her way into staff's boards

I didn't mean to start an argument, lol. Anyway, these people we call "hackers" are technically sposed to be called "crackers" when they're stealing others information, but it's no big deal. Also, yes, it's very easy for a cracker to get your password on IF or any other site. There are many programs designed specifically for this purpose. Take Brutus for example. Or even Artmoney.

Right.
Why isn't DuffMan's password being cracked 10 times a day then? :r
Or ever, for that matter.
My $50 offer still stands.

I don't mean to argue either, but we can't really have people making false or inaccurate claims about IF's security.

I'm not making a false claim! And as to how my pass got cracked in the first place was because it wasn't alphnumeric, just alpha. Duffman's has probably always been alphanumeric, and most likely just a random chain of letters and numbers. I never make random pass's, I forget them, lol. Now my passcode can't be cracked by pass cracking software.
