Ok. First off, why do people rip? Seriously, you will not believe how many forums i have found to be ripping my skins. Its not even funny. I mean, c'mon. That is only the forums i have noticed too. What about the ones i don't know about?

Back to my question, why do people rip? To take out my copyright, a person has to manually go in the Admin Cp, to the CSS, find it and delete it. You cant go

whoops my finger slipped and i deleted the copyright.

O yah that really happens.

What are rippers problems? Can they not make anything, so they take credit for others work? They tick me off so much. Sometimes i just want to quit skinning, b/c of all the jerks, and rippers out there.

The more well known you are around here, the more people take your stuff.

i like that banner. im taking it!11!1one

You know how many people took my TEST banner for my Infections Designs skin?
Too many to count. They just edit right over it.

Help me out people. What are rippers problems?

Well Fac3full i do believe that when someone rips other people codes including your skins they are jealous (sp) because they cant go and do the same things you did. i guess they dont understand all the work that goes into codes and or skins and i guess they cant learn how to do them themselves so they rip them.

if that made any sense then yay if not then i got lost while typing it.

Well, some people don't like having yet another copyright plastered on their page, especially one with an advertising link to whatever forum the skin is from.
Then again, some don't mind or might even like it.
Personally, I would recommend putting any copyright in comment tags so it doesn't appear on the page, and certainly not putting it in the CSS, which would make it appear on the main page, in the personal photo popup, and who knows where else.
If you insist on having it displayed, you should put it in the board wrappers or something.

A lot of people are so used to snagging images off the net that they don't even think twice about it, or they just hotlink.
Others are just too lazy or unskilled to make their own but want people to think they can, for whatever reason.
Some people also put their name or copyright on images like logos or whatever, which I've seen many graphics people here do, and that can be really annoying as well.
I would never do that, nor would I ever use somebody's graphics if they insisted on putting their name or url on them, even if they were the best graphics ever made.

But, yeah.
Most people are just silly.
They could have just asked you to put their text on your test image instead of doing it themselves, yeah?
And we get a lot of people here asking how they can get such and such on their forum like some other board has, instead of simply asking the owner of that other board if they can use it or be shown how to make their own.

Sorry to hear Fac3full. I've had similiar problems with a 'code' I released a whiles back...

On a side-note, my boards're using your skin...is that a copyright problem (above the banner)? I got rid of the IFSkinZone link, since like you said, I did get it from here. I left the Made by Fac3full part untouched, but did add a small "Edited by" part. If you don't want that on there, I'll remove it. (nother' note: boards are in my WWW button..).

And I think the biggest problem that causes ripping is this: Most people who rip, either can't make the graphic themselves and want to take credit for it, or...just figure nobody'll catch them. Or whatever, I dunno.

I think it does have alot more to do with people not wanting a copyright line right on top of their forum, as Phrank mentioned, because it looks out of place/messy.
For the creator, it may give some advertisement but I don't believe it makes much of a difference if it's on the top or near the IF copyright (where I believe they should be). Most people who go to forums couldn't careless who made the skin or where it came from because most of them will never have a forum for themselves.
There may be a few situations in which people take them off to take credit for it but that's just plain silly and, unfortunately, most times they won't get caught out because, say someone asks them to make a graphic. He'll just go to a forum or ask someone who never puts copyrights and then pass it on as his own.

Ah forgot something...... a while back someone posted for help in the Support forum and I took a look at his forum. Below his stats section he had a whole bunch of copyright codes. One for skins, one for buttons, a few more for codes/hacks. That kind of pissed me off.... no wait, it did :@ . Hope that trend doesn't spread cus I've got about 5/6 codes on my board and I wouldn't be very happy if I had to stick 6 lines of copyright codes on the bottom of my forum  .

And just so you know, I'm not one to rip. Heck, I even have a topic in my Announcements forum called "Credits". Buttons, markers, skin, banner, everything is mentioned there and who made them (with links to their forums, if they have one).

Attention seeking. That's what I can think of. Because they have no skill whatsoever, and can't produce something of their own, but still want people to say that they made something amazing (or whatever positive comment they're after), they rip. Which is stealing and lying, as far as I'm concerned. Stealing because they take what is not theirs, and lying because they call it their own work.

I remember a rant I made about this some time ago

I've been thinking about the same problem. The solution, I've come up with, is to have special mark hidden on the graphic/skin/whatever. Not an annoying watermark, but something almost invisible to the naked eye that you don't tell anyone about.

So when someone does rip, you have another way to prove that its yours.

Because they want everyone to think that they created the skin meaning they are high and mighty.
I don't know really. Maybe they think that copyrights are ugly.

I respect the artist of my skin that I use on my forums and leave the copyright there as the artist wanted. I don't think it's out of place or distracting in any way at all.

When someone visits my forum, the majority of them won't click it or care what it is anyway.
