http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

Look under the Why Use Firefox? section of that website. If you think about it, the download and installation takes about 5 minutes. You could be using some sort of horrible web browser that takes 10 minutes alone to launch whereas in Firefox it will load much faster. Of course this will obviously vary according to your Internet connection but I'm sure you get the idea.

Personally I think Firefox is a great web browser and I use it all the time. I don't really care what other people use (as the Cow once said).

Let's see.. quick overview of popular features:

- Tabbed browsing
- Much safer than IE (haven't had any spyware since I started using FF)
- Highly customizable (loads of extensions and themes available)
- Standards compliant (displays websites like they should be displayed)

You honestly should try it. Most people who download it and try it out either like it or fall in love with it. Currently about 60 million people downloaded it and IE is slowly losing it's dominant spot on the browser market.

One downside to FF is that some sites are designed for IE and thus don't work properly in FF. A feature on Ebay for instance didn't work on FF until a few days ago, now Ebay lists FF as one of the recommended browsers.

So yeah, give it a spin I'd say, you may or may not like it, but it's worth taking a look at. :)

=Bad.

That means, when Firefox is the dominant browser, Hackers will start picking on FF and we will have to retreat to IE again. :ermm: :arr: :'(

Not necessarily.. I'm sure as Firefox grows more security bugs will be found, but there's one big difference: Usually these bugs are fixed within 48 hours. IE has some serious bugs with have been unpatched for months.

there's an update notifier in firefox, isn't there? It's told me about updates before so.... :ermm:
Unlike IE, with Firefox you have a bunch of volunteers out there willing to help fix problems that can arise so fixes shouldn't be a problem. IE is closed in a box and comes out every few months with a fix that comes with a few more bugs.

You get a little image pop up on the File Edit View menu to tell you when upgrades are found. It's green i believe :)

I get a red thingy in the corner of my window when ever there's a new FF update available.
I believe you can enable that feature in tools -> options -> advanced -> software updates...

(Sometimes I have to click it again after I've installed the update though, it's like it doesn't realize it has already been updated... )

Ok, it seems that i am edging over to it.
I (yesterday) forund out that my friend had FF. I had a play and really liked it.
Is their a way that i can make IE the default one, so when mum usese the computer, she can still use IE, and i can hide FF in one of my folders so she will never find out?! lol... thanks

Just go to FF's Tools >> Options...

And uncheck the checkbox that says
Quote:

Firefox should check to see if it is the default browser when starting

Although i would wonder why you wouldnt want as many people as possible to experience FF.. :|
