virus....i REALLY dont think u are the kind of person who should be using Linux. there are just certain things in life that require you to figure them out yourself and Linux seems to be one of them, and because of this...i suggest using Windows again.

Ubuntu is a debian distribution and doesn't support RPM files. The equivalent would be debian packages which you can install via apt-get or the Synaptic Package Manager. Synaptic should be in Ubuntu by default, so you can use it to get packages. If you find a site that gives you the .deb files, I suggest you learn how to use dpkg or aptitude, if it's available.

I've always used the ones that come with the installation disks and Linux magazines that I buy.

How do you get programs?
1) You buy them, or buy magazines. Usually most Linux software is free, so this is not necessary

2) You download them off of sites like http://tucows.com/

3) You use the installation disk and package manager supplied with your make and version of Linux (You can get different makes)

4) You ask experienced Linux users what they use

We all start somewhere. Try not to rush your learning and get used to what is there first.

The debian package management system is supposed to be better anyway

mullet you is all I have to say.
I've used windows long enough to hate it to hell, and some retard telling me to use it won't make me. Wow it's a bit harder, but I can easily get used to it once I learn it.

Oh yeah, and Windows ME is worse than anything.

before this becomes a flame thread, i was merely saying that linux itself isnt THE most user friendly thing in the world and does require some intuitiveness on the users part.

second of all, i know Me is horrible and i was stating that to pose irony. note the "runs off giggling like a little schoolgirl"

the ubuntu support forums is probably where u wanna go for any questions. since they built it and all

I'll try out Ubuntu. If I find it is not as friendly as Mandrake, then I will recommened Mandrake to you.

I have found that Mandrake is very user friendly, and comes with the programs you need.

It may not be user friendly, no, but I'd have to start using it at some point. Only reason I'm asking linux users for help, is, well, because they use linux.

I installed it and it doesn't support my key board or my graphics card.

I bet it's very nice, but I would rather stick to Mandrake because it seems to be more user friendly.
