First off I agree with Smithster on this one, Second, why is something that takes up 3X more space a good thing? (not 2), and Third, is it really that big of a deal? Do you really need yellow erasers that badly???? |

The reason the IF buttons look the way they do (without drop shadows) is because many people "skin" their forums. Your example clearly shows what could happen. The IPB button looks stupid on the dark background, but the IF one blends in nicely. Another example would be the smilies. Highlight the two below. In my browser, the one on the right has a white halo. If the background was dark, you would be able to see it. That's why the default IF set seems jagged. <_< Now, why are the buttons themselves ugly? It's because someone saved them with a smaller palette than it needs. Mercury. Edit: I think right, I type left. |

The images on iF have been edited to remove that annoying white background...This is why they are smaller, and are slightly faded.

I edited Cage's post to show why. This is the basic issue: Light Background: IF: ok. IPB: Great. Dark Background: IF: great. IPB: bad. It was a decision I made to make the most boards look as good as possible. |

That's why PNG rocks, alpha transparency My forum have the default and a dark skin, 1 set of smilies for bothhttp://ptprophecy.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=20289 http://ptprophecy.com/forum/index.php?show...=20289&skinid=3 You should save the image without the shadow instead of editing it, the edge looks jagy

I agree that PNG is a nice format. But not many browsers support it. And if it does, it may not show the transparency. The way IF has it set up, it works for the everyday user who doesn't have the latest and greatest. And I think they made the right decision. (And thanks Duffman for the edit. I was wondering how Cage would do that. And it does look good. But you forgot some of the smilies.) Mercury. |
