The problem right now is that its using the if...else statement in the code the wrong way. Its only reading to see if you have IE, if you dont you will get Netscape. Im trying to figure out why.

I still dont know what the undefined bit is pertaining to.

This is my first code. The main purpose is to learn more about javascript and distribute it to anyone that wants it. Besides, this is just part of the code. The finished code will be kind of like a small control panel with links to edit your avy, sig, and profile. Please dont diss me. Ive seen worst first attempts at coding. :rofl:

Okay forgetting about the Browser Detection for now.....how do you like the look of it. I like it a lot! And I did it all by myself!!!!! :w00t:

Well....with some example help from Javascript Examples. Thats an awesome site to learn javascript.

If it says "Good afternoon login", that means that you have not registered or are not logged in. Once you are logged in, it will say your user name there.

Ok, let's clear this up. mozilla is a branch of netscape, and some of the netscape browser's code is used in firefox, therefore when you are using firefox, it will always come up as netscape.

I changed this part to take out the document.write and the undefined no longer exists on my test, but it wont detect the right browser yet, i used aol and got ie i used ie and got ie and used firefox and got netscape

Code:

<table width="100%" border="1" bordercolor="black" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="4"><tr><td class="row2"><script type="text/javascript">(detectBrowser())</script></td></tr></table>

As presaid a few times....Firefox is/was a stripped down version of Netscape, built using the same engine (Mozzila)

A browser cannot tell the difference.
