I installed Apache, PHP and MySQL following this guide, and all was well till I got this error "cannot load MySQL extension, please check PHP Configuration. Documentation". All the files are there, so does anyone know how to fix it

I believe that PHP 5 does not come with MySQL installed right away. You need to configure it.

To do that, open your php.ini file.

Go to line 579 and uncomment:

extension=php_msql.dll
extension=php_mysql.dll

Then restart Apache. Hopefully that'll work good. :)

You just have to uncomment the mysql one

and it should work. :)

Thanx, but I've been scouring the net all night and I've already tried that and no luck. I can't figure out why I seem to be having this much bother.

You're sure you have MySQL installed correctly?

If so, my suggestion would be to get PHP 4.4.0. I just installed it last night in >10 minutes, plus you might find that 4 is what you want anyways. :)

I'm pretty sure I have it installed properly.
Do you know if there's much difference between 4.4.0 and 4.1.4? I more or less have to teach myself it with books I've bought and it will be difficult if there are differences

Anything that works in 4.1.4 should work in 4.4.0.
(As far as I know, the only difference is that some functions got extended in 4.2.0 and a memory bug got fixed in 4.4.0.)
There are only big differences between (how do you call that?) 4.x.x and 5.x.x etc.
So I'm pretty sure you'll be fine. :)

Ack I read that wrong, I thought we were still on about MySQL :$. I didn't think 4.4.0 existed.

Well all the books I have on PHP are for 5 so I'm not sure about using 4. I'm givin MySQL 4.0.26 a try.
