A system which works is a forum with about 30 members, most of whom know eachother.
Basically friends, and some friends of friends, who are mostly quite active...
There's respect, too.
"Why don't we all just talk?" - We aren't in the same places.

It's a comfortable community sort of thing... It works.

Hm. i think if we want a active community. We can have a offical IF Support All members general hangout forum. :)

If most members join in this topic, we would do very well.

My forum is 2.5 years old and at the moment, only about five or six members are active. There's over 13,000 posts with a lot of dead accounts. Some have been active at the beginning, but as school and life gets in the way, they drift off.

For those who don't post at ALL, I've given them a half-year grace period to post something before they're gone.

Though, since I've based my board on someone else's and the group of people who were at that one forum have disappeared somewhere, I'll just have to live with it and knowing that people might end up thinking what I've set up as a RP forum as "harsh". (Where actually, I'm just trying to lessen confusion seen at other forums...)

*ahem* Anyways. Enough of my useless and boring rambling.

It's ok, I still love you.

P.S. Give them something to stick around for.

(Since I'm not exactly sure who you're refurring to, Quality Poster, I'll just assume if that's okay ^^; )

Well, I had an arcade, but since people only came for that... >_< Yeah. I ended up getting rid of that since it also messed with the online statistics of other members. ^^;;

But, to some people, my forum simply serves as a back-up forum if the one(s) they go to end up shutting down for some mysterious and unknown reason.

I was referring to you, but as a joke.

Is your forum a General Chat? Those usually never work. If it's RP, try giving them something to do other than RP such as: Umm...Hrmm...*scratches head*....how about a contest or something? I don't know, I am horrible at RPing.

Nevermind I give up, I'm horrible at Support my life is worthless....*walks off into the shadows*

^^; You're not worthless.

And I guess it would be a mix of sorts. (The RP portion dominating the general half since it was originally opened as a pure RP forum.)

I've honestly stopped complaining though. As long as I enjoy myself, that should be all that matters, right? D:

Hehe, just kidding. Try uploading a whole new plot like have a messenger or someone run in and be like "This town was attacked by this species and we need all the help we can get. Blah blah blah blah we need warriors blah blah blah! P.S. This is a ploy to get you to stay!"

Perhaps it will rekindle their love for your forum :-).

I don't feel bad now, after reading everyone's post. I will agree it's depressing when new members join and don't post at all, especially after lurking around for 45-60 minutes.

I've had about 115-120 members sign up to my board (79 currently active now), but the most I've had online at one time was 14. About 8 of the members are very active, but I've lost two of them lately. It would be nice if I could have a constant flow of about 6-10 online...even if there are over 300 members.

Hey guys

glad to know its not just my problem - this lack of posting.

Then again I am quite happy with constructing an information source rather than active discussion group anyway - less hassle for me trying to keep topics going etc.

Hmm I really doubt it if that works and you're right it would be pretty sad.
I rather would have 10 active members then 100 Dummy accounts.
