Yeah, I hate that! My board has 145 members and only 5 or so post.. And that's like once every couple of days. Lots of them have never posted... My board used to be busy though, I have 38 members and 12-15 of them posted everyday. It was sweet....

Really its maturity, 90% of the people that join this boards are 13 or below, know the ones that post and get to know the community are usually 14+. That just comes in time, most of them play games and have no personality.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep members coming back? I mean besides activity, that's obvious. Is there a trick to hook members? Is there a trick to get guests to sign up? MOST people join my boards, because they want to advertise and they'll do it through PM, Sig, and posts in places it isn't supposed to be in.

You would have to make a Multi Age Forum, which means have things that are liked from the age 10 +, because as said, the majority people registering are 13- below.

without a coppa form, you must be 13 or over.

Coppa forms can be alot of hassle so many dont use them

Alot people just say there over 13, when they register everything. WHen they have to place the date they were born its easy to get by passed.

I started up my forum in July and only got 5 registered members after 3 months online, half of which were relatives (mercy registerations, once they found out I was having trouble gaining members....those are almost worse than no new registrations). And after registering even THEY wouldn't post!

One member said in an e-mail conversation that he would post if there was more activity on the board. So I registered a dozen fictitious members and spent a few weeks every night posting as each person to make the board seem more lively (pathetic, I know), and it didn't work. The guy still wouldn't post and, as far as I know, has never even returned to the site.

I thought I'd get at least a few of the people at other forums I post at (and considered "friends") to register. But, no. Nothing.

Finally I came to a point where I was torn between deleting the board, or changing it's format. I changed the format. No members now. I just post a lot of resource information on the board's primary topic (movies), and offer a wide variety of weblinks to movie sites (as well as the usual games, theater, etc). I get a lot of guests (I always had pretty good guest traffic) so I guess the new format is working out better than the old.

I also have a Christian site (which I spend 90% of my online time at), which I recently converted to the same format, as it too was having loads of trouble drawing members. Even though I joined about a billion webrings, banner exchanges, and submitted the site to all sorts of search engines.....

Speaking of which, what's the point of pre-registering? Just to register test accounts quickly or something?

People use it, thesedays, to have a bigger member count and attract others to join. This is wrong use of it. It was there to reserve names, register extra admin accounts faster and other things like that.
