Then how did people regsiter on the 8th if no one new about it til yesterday?

I registered my board on september 2004, andI opened it on may 12th 2005. thats because i decided to not use it last year and this spring I found another use for that invisionfree account so I decided to use it because I remembered the URL

and ywah it take a while before getting things set up
imaging you open your board and realise you made admin CP avaliable to guests by accidents? better to check everything before opening it to public

If i'd have had any sort of experience with owning a board before, I'd have opened mine once i'd got it how i wanted it to be because the first week or two was spent sorting out things and adding stuff, instead of chatting to the people as much as i would have liked.

Your forum is probably too big and cumbersome for most people. Who would want to post when they can't even find the forum they want because it's lost in a sea of almost one hundred forums?

Cut down to just general stuff, and stop doing whatever any one member asks, and that should help.

Oh, and here is some more advice :).

It isn't that big at the start. As members are promoted by participation, it grows with them. I start with basic stuff, and develop it from there. As far as General Stuff requested by members, I have a general off topic forum. If certain topics start catching on, I then decide if I want to make a sub forum for it, or incorporate it into existing forums.

i prefer to create my skins myself, rather than using premade ones, also i agree with the 3rd point, as long as you dont have over 50% of total forums posts its fine

well my take on this is that their are a lot of things one would look at when they think abot joining a forum or decide to stay in a forum and post a lot. it isn't just about what you offer on said forum which is also important since you want things in your forum that would attract the sort of people.

of course how the admin and or mods behave in the forum is also important as well as the atmosphere that you created for the forum. their is a very fine balance between lawlessness where there aren't rules or they aren't being enforced which is bad as well as nazi like admins which ban or delete accounts for crazy reasons or breaking insane rules or just because they have a problem with a certain person which is also bad.

a lot of people like a forum where they can feel comfortable posting into without getting insulted or yelled at which would be disrespectful and a quick way to get members to stop showing up. I always try to remember that you(the founder of the forum) need members to join and they don't need you so you have to show why it would be in their interests to join and post and just because it doesn't hurt to talk with members that haven't posted but been members for a while or haven't shown up in a while since they may have been too busy to get online or even lost the address( that happened once so you should make any effort to make sure that isn't one of those problems that a member isn't showing up or posting.

I find that having a member's introduction section where members can post their introduction and get to know the admin, mods and the other members allows the new members to get to know each other and to get them to post since I found that many of my members on my forum are joining a forum for the first time and aren't familar with a lot of the things on any typical forum. also answering each and every question asked without showing that one is annoyed or irritated by the question shows that you respect the member and want to make their stay as enjoyable as possible.

take a look at this forum for instance. they have members who post in the wrong spot or break rules a lot but handle each problem quickly and respectfully without insulting that member which is probably why there are so many members here. they offer services here that people want while having a relaxed atmosphere but have fair and consistent rules which are all important things to have in any forum regardless of what is offered.

in short admin and mods should always respect their members and each other and the members should respect each other and the admin and mods. when that rule is followed then there will never be a problem because every rule that is commonly found on forums is linked to that one golden rule and it will attract members to post a lot and get guests to register and post a lot.

1) My main IF forum has the original skin, members didn't like new colors or skin changers..that was scrapped.

2) Mine has a variety of things on it, not just one theme.

3) I try not too... like to stay away as much as possible. They take care of themselves, but I'm thier if a board problem arises right away.

4) Having many members from all over, US,Canada,Aus, UK and other places keeps it going....I still believe in Search Engines bringing in members.

5) It didn't hurt to rent a Cessna and drop 125,000 fliers over major cities either ;)

That's not true, most people when they see TONS of topics with 0 posts in them are turned off. You don't want lots of topics with no replys.

How are you spamming? It's part of the discussion here. Anyway if you don't have many members or you're just starting out, I doubt anyone will join because of that... Idk. If anyone doesn't mind, can they give me an opinion about my board? Should I get rid of the subforums to reduce the number of forums? Link's in my sig. How do you know when there are too many forums?
