No offence but calling them retards (although you probably didnt actually say it to them) isnt gonna encourage people to join. Not if you have that attitude to new people.

when I join and don't post it's usually because I forgot where the board was, and since "sometimes" when you join a board, the email goes in your spam folder instead of the inbox it's easy to delete an e mail from a site.
One time I joined a board and found out that it was a site"not" for me personally  so I never posted there. When I was a true N00b, some of the sites I joined, I felt too shy to post on, so I would just go and see what was going on, then leave without posting untill I felt comfortable. Also, when I was a n00b I joined alot of boards because they had the name of a game I liked...but I later found that some were "diferent" for some reason...some I liked, some I just didn't...don't ask why. I try to post at least one time on boards I join :$

Some time they don't know how to validate a member if they are new to forums.

Yea true I hate that what is the point to join then.

Some people prefer to take a back seat in things. There are a few forums that I frequent but rarely post, mainly because while I find the posts interesting it's not stimulating enough to make me want to respond. If someone is on plenty but not posting much then maybe ask them why, if they're just not on...well, do whatever you normally do with the inactive peeps I guess.
Still, calling people names, especially misusing words which in itself is pretty low, isn't the best thing to do if you want to attract members. ;)

I would like to add something if I may.

Whether the members post or not, you will need members no matter what in order to make your site grow and prosper. Members are one of the most important ingrediant on your site. Never treat the members differently just because they are not active. Try to accomodate them the best you can to slowly win them back, like sending them E-mail on their birthdays, congratulate them and graciously remind them to come back, You know, make them feel comfortable, contact them so they will eventually get more comfortable in comming back to your site. You do NOT however, want to call them names or stuff just because they don't post or not comming on. That's a no no. NEVER do that. My site also have small percentage of members who haven't posted and some haven't even returned, and it's still a pretty small community, but as you improve your site and treat people nicely, who knows, if they love the site and feel welcomed, they will eventually tell the others to come join. It is something called, 'A WORD OF MOUTH'. I have recently experienced couple members recruiting a few new members for our site. You definately want to see that to happen in order to prosper and to grow. So, whatever you do, be nice. Being nice always works better.

Well, that's just my two cents, and I hope you luck on your site. I will check it out as well even though I cannot guarantee that I will sign up.

I see why no-one registers on your site. You need to release the content to the guest. People won't register to the site when they don't know what kind of topics they will be able to post on. Just make it so the guests can only read, but can't post. Hide some better categories so they can only be accessed by the members. You know, tell the people what your site is really about. That is my opinion. Also, at first, don't worry about slow registering of members. It takes time.

Good Luck.

active members r rare nowadays lol

Not really. Aslong as your forum has a great community and appearance.

Also Flokkert, whos link do you have in your sig. ^_^ hehe. Thank You.

It is kinda rare, unless you have money to get yourself ranked high on search engines. Most people only click on affiliation buttons/go to the directory to advertise THEIR board. Idk, I'm starting to get some active members, but after two years I should have had ALOT more.... I guess it's neglect of the forum, but still I thought I would be alot bigger now.. I mean two years.... and since someone deleted all of the threads it's alot smaller. [/end rant]

Wow. 2 years only 10k posts? :ermm: . Hm. You might want to get a better skin/appearance for a start.

Well if someone doesn't join because of the skin, then I don't really want them to join anyway. Besides there are lots of IPB boards that look the same and they have thousands of members... Anyway I used to have lots of active members and got like 7000 posts in a couple of months, but I stopped posting and everyone else stopped, then it was a year of nothing, everything was dead. I never posted or tried anything with it. I just recently started posting again and I won't neglect it again... Oh and I'd have more members too, but I had to ban/delete alot of them.

I agree, having an awesome skin will definately help in drawing more people, it will be a plus but that does not mean, the default skin will stop any guests from joining. As long as you have the contents and interesting topics to post on, people will come and join. No doubt about it. To tell you the truth, when I still had an old site with IPB, I managed to recruite about 100 members without any new skins. I am not joking. So, it is possible without the fancy skins even though it will be easier to draw attention to more people if you have a skin that is attractive.
