Hey everyone, I've seen alot of topics based on PHP of course because it has something to do with programming, but i'm curious is PHP and Invision Free related? I'm curious to know what makes up the data bases of IF? Any help would be appreciated, I would really like to know more, as i'm interested.

Thank you for your answer. Does IF run SQL as their web server? |

No, not really. ![]() I can't say for sure, but I think the IF servers run Apache. (Apache is the most populair webserver application out there by far) SQL is something different. SQL stands for Structure Query Language, and can be used to get data from databases. The database type used by IF is MySQL, its free and verry populair for use on websites. (Again,I think.) |

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's MySQL. I have used both PHP and MySQL and they interact fairly easily.....and both are free!

It's pretty complex. What operating system are you using? If it is Windows, it won't be TOO hard to set up, but if it's linux, I believe you have to compile the source code, which can be pretty hard. |

MySQL is very popular. It is also used as a database on InvisionPower Board forums aswell.. However IPB also has it's own database too. |

I'm very new to this, but I've had to do research to back up why I'm using them for my honours project at uni. You can find some information at dummies.com, this might help http://www.dummies.com/WileyCDA/DummiesArt...ROGRAMMING.html More at wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Php http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mysql http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache If you'd like to learn it http://www.w3schools.com/ and I really recomend ths book http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0...6337624-1829534 |

To host a website, you only need a webserver program running. Apache would be the best choise. At http://httpd.apache.org/download.cgi, you can download a Apache Installer. Once that is done, you can go to to via http://localhost/ (Only if you are on your PC) or http://[your.ip]/. (If you have a router, you will need to forward port 80.) Now, you can host your own websites on you own PC. To get a domain name, you will need to register one and forward it to your IP. There is lots of info on that here. To run PHP and MySQL, you will need to install them. Info on that can be found here. |

Thank you, I must of misunder stood, I thought with the http://localhost you first must need a DNS to create a url, or does this already come with Apache? |
