I'm starting to think that I do have a dynamic IP address. I'm always connected to the net but today my IP address had changed, but it only changes one ever few days.

Is this static or dynamic?

Yes, the ip address given by IPCONFIG won't tell you if you have a dynamic IP address. To check if you have a static IP address, go to whatsmyip and check the IP address. Turn off your DSL/CABLE/Whatever modem so you are not connected to the internet. Turn it back on and then go to whatsmyip once more. If the two addresses are the same, you probably have a static IP address. The only way to be sure is by checking whatsmyip over a few days and seeing if it changes. If it changes by the SMALLEST amount then you have a dynamic IP like most people.

The 10.0.0.2 ip address is your computer's LOCAL ip address. What I don't understand is that there isn't a default gateway entry. Did you remove it or was it empty to begin with? Make sure that when you run IPCONFIG you have your modem turned on and that you can access the internet. Once you have that, run IPCONFIG again.

Edit: Do you use an instant messaging program that I can just chat with you in real-time?

Ok, thanks for that. I found out that I do have a dynamic IP address, it only changes every few days. With the default gateway I removed because I did not think it was important.

Yes I do have msn, I'll add you and send a pm informing you of my e-mail address. Thanks for this.

Just to tell you, if you don't care about milisecond performance on localhost, IIS is alot easier to set up and use. Once you have php configured and downloaded, setting up IIS to work iwth it takes me around 30 seconds.

Apache does work better, and is less targeted, and better for web servers. But localhost servers, in my opionion, are not worth the time and trouble to set up apache!

IIS is free in all versions of windows, 'cept for Windows XP home. Apache, however, is a better system. It's a trade of basically.

I'm sorry if this has been mentioned, or if you have already set up apache, I was offering this to other people who may read, and I didn't read all 3 pages, just the first one. (my "J" key is very hard to press at the moment. Maybe it was that coke :(, oh well)

Good luck with whatever you do!

Well the thing is that ISS limits the number of simulaneous connections to 10 effectively killing it for use as a web server. At least the ISS in XP Pro does, i dont know about 2000. It's great for development testing and such, but I had to switch to apache in order to allow more than 10 connections.

I'll stay with Apache for now and get use to the basics. I forgot to ask earlier on, Invision boards are created by php, does this mean the ACP is also PHP?

In my opinion, yes.
I'd say things like IPB and IF can be called software.

The basics aren't that hard silly.
