During the S13 downtime (my forum is on S14)... I decided to obtain all the registered email addresses of my members, and create a "mailing list" for them. So.. if the server 14 is ever down... or there are any other problems.. All I have to do is go into outlook and send a quick email to them all, thus saving the hassle. (I have a special email account set up for the forum) It might be adviseable for everyone to do so, then when there is a downtime, and it looks like it might be for a while, you can email your members and keep them up to date, then there's more chance they'll come back to your forum and not find another one. Just an idea. It works for me, and my members very much appreciate the updates! Then you don't have to sit in here, and complain about losing members, because you already have their details to keep them updated on the situation (loyal members will appreciate this and wait for the forum to be back online).

I did the same today actually. I'm on s14 but i thought that if it ever goes down like s13 did i want to be able to contact all my members, so today i went through them all and added their email addresses to the account i have for the forum. |

You might want to also mention somewhere at your forum that they should make sure they have real (and current) email addresses listed, since some people put in bogus ones for some reason, and others forget to update theirs. |

Very good advice. I put out updates and created a mailing list for my members. I also have it posted on how to find me if there are problems. |

I've had this for a year or two now, and 3 backup forums ... and if worse comes to worst, I have many tutorials saved in my favourites on how to create your own forums. I also have had an SQL Table containing: Member Username: Email: For each of my members.Because of this topic, I've also started asking all members for a current, real, eMail, and giving out my eMail, so if they've changed eMails and theres no way to contact me, they'll be able to eMail me. |

how are you guys copying all the email addresses? Manually one by one via the Admin CP? Because I have over 1000 members and the idea is something I thought about, but to copy that many manually is just to much effort... |

I copied them manually one by one.. but I only have 50 odd members.. then when a new member joins I add them too. Not sure how on earth you'd do it, without spending hours! lol |

You must know that I would spend more than 10 hours copying e-mails on my forum, considering that I have 1,950+[/i] members and growing. :stefan: That's definately not a good idea, I'm sure that I knew a way to do that but I just forgot. |

You can search for it using the admin cp. Just type in the member's name and voila! There you have it.
