Strings are about as small as modern physics would take us. They're infinite vibrating loops, after all. The only thing "smaller" than a string is the quantum foam from which it's made, and those aren't particles, that's the very structure of the fabric of space-time.

There is a low brick wall, about ten feet high, and after that there is nothing at all. I joke. The real end of the universe is in Houston Texas. |

Might sound stupid to some, but my theory is that the universe is one huge sphere like the earth. Just a thought. |

Not stupid. ![]() Stephen Hawking in A Brief History of Time postulated a similar possibility, describing the universe as "finite without boundaries" -- much like the surface of the Earth. Our Earth has a finite surface area, but it is without boundaries in that you can start walking and never stop. (Assuming you can walk on water and are immortal. )

The only problem I have about thinking that the universe would be like the earth without boundries is that.. First think that YEs we can go straight and going around the earth infinite times. That's because it's round. But thinking of the earth, if we go UP, we'll be out of earth into the universe. Well if the universe were like that, how's it possible that we can go Up as in, Up and out of the universe if it's like a sphere. It's hard to see the Universe similar to earth since we can leave earth just be going up, but if you go up while in the universe, then what would you get to then?? |

Jeez, should we really be thinking about this? Heads are going to hurt... anyways...We can't possibly even begin to imagine how big the universe will actually be. There are no boundaries in life, and yet we are surrounded by them in every single waking moment of our life. The universe has boundaries because we LABEL them as boundaries. It is humans that believe that the universe must have an end somewhere, and refuse to believe that it may actually go on and on forever. For those who believe that the universe is just really big, note that it has several different dimensions. You can define the dimensions, such as 1-D: Containing the X Axis 2-D: Containing the X and Y Axes 3-D: Contianing the X, Y, and Z Axes 4-D: Containing the X, Y, Z, and time Axes. 5-D: Containing the X, Y, Z, time, and *insert random letter* |

I heard somewhere scientests say there may be 11 dimensions, the 3rd dimension could be surrounding us, then 4th around that, then 5 6 7 8 9 10 and 11, i think you get the picture. |

Are you saying that the universe is layer-based? |

It's infinite, and eventually you can reach a place where you see nothing not even stars. |
