I look at the number of members, the setup, activity and how nice the staff are.

i have about 3 or 4 forums that ive made and i always let guests see the member descriptions, solcial and see part of our stuff to see if they like it or not....so ya we're alike there...

good skins, activity, friendliness, polite members, layout of the board topics.

that's what i basicly look at

Problem being is most people go for activity meaning new boards really struggle because of it. If people join quieter boards there is slightly more chance of it growing :yes: I mean my boards never take off because of inactivity :/

I feel that if you have to register to see the forums, then I probably won't waste my time. I allow guests to visit my forums freely and if they got something to add to discussion, then they will.

I feel a good skin is important.
Active members helps
Active news or posts daily also

I always look for low moderation and people having the ability to be themselves (as long as it doesn't hurt someone else or violate TOS).
