If a user is clearly there just to advertise via PM and has done nothing else, I would just get rid of them permanently. No reason to have hat garbage on your board. However, if they contribute anything to your community, you would be best off suspending them for a reasonable amount of time. This allows you to enforce your rules, but you won't lose a poster either. |

If they are an active/respectable person, then a warn and an explanation are good. If they are there just to PM Advertise, as zorg222 said, then Ban them. If they keep comming back, ban their IP. |

Or, if you'd rather not suspend or ban them, you could also move them to a usergroup that has PM access disabled, like we do, generally after the second offense. We pretty much never move anyone back from any of our restricted groups, but that's partly because this forum has so many members and few staff to bother with it, but you could probably move them back after a period of time without too much trouble. I would also agree that if it's clear that they joined primarily to advertise, it's probably best to just get rid of them. |

Quantum-locked when observed.

Think about it. It's just like spam emails or junk mail, only on one's board. :/ Any form of unsolicited advertising is generally considered annoying. |

On my board, I don't have a rule set in stone for PM advertising. Mostly because it's never happened at my board yet. I have a system in place where when you join my board, you're placed into a user group that can't PM. After you make 10 posts, then you're moved to a user group where you can PM. It's not the most perfect system.

Possibley giving them a warning and their PM Privaleges taken away, then if they continue to disobey you, ban them and tell them they were warned. |
