I was wondering since CHinese New year is nearing I wanted to know who celebrates it? I definately do since im viet and stuff. And every year we get,... MONEY! Well I'll try to explain it a little bit as well as my teacher did a few years ago to ppl who dont know that it is. Though im bad at explainin. Anyways like most of you know every year contains 365 days and we follow the time of the sun. In the chinese calendar they follow the rotation of the moon. Also known as Lunar Year. Whichmeans Moon Year. There is also 12 animals that represent every 12 years. Legend says that there was a arguement of the animals over which one was declared 1st 2nd, 3rd so on so forth order. So the "Gods" Declared there should be a race and whichever Animal swims cross the river bank is declared well the number that they made it to the bank. The others I forgot how they got to where they were but... The ox was swimming but then the rat snuck up and was on the ox's back during the whole swim. While the ox was near the bank the rat quickly jumped off and was declared first. Obviously ox was declared second. And rest u can search up on... And yeah. ANy questions for ppl who dont get it? And so... anyone celebrate it? |

I don't celebrate it, but my Chinese friend does. I suppose we'll be out that night for the sake of my friend since she celebrated our new year with us, but it doesn't mean much to the rest of us. I was born in '84 so I'm one of the rats I got there first.

I personally don't celebrate it, but I do know people who'd use it as an excuse to have a party. |

Do you celebrate Christmas or Easter? Solstices? Columbus day? Etc? Same deal, different stories. Anyway, I'm not sure I know anyone who celebrates it, except I think Mercury does. I will after I move though, since there's apparently a Chinese family living next door or nearby, who came over to my future house to offer my friend freshly homemade potstickers and fortune cookies during their celebration. |

:o Halloween? :/ Surely you celebrate some things? Life would be pretty boring without celebrations. And when else but Halloween and Easter can you justify eating rediculous amounts of chocolate? Anyway, yeah, I'm looking forward to next year and a chance for nice, warm potstickers. I missed the parade and festival here this year. They close the streets off downtown and put up banners and lanterns and things and have dancers and all sorts of stuff. Used to be my job (volunteer) to hang up all the banners around town, which took most of a day. I need to stop volunteering for so many things.
