Anyone used (or using it?). I am and it seems to be similar to firefox in some ways (besides tabs). Some seems smilar to IE 6 aka STILL no darn thing to say the page is loading. I am still going to be using firefox.

The GUI is not the best. W3C Standers (compaired to IE 6 Opera 8.5 and Firefox 1.5) http://aarons.wordpress.com/web-standers-and-broswers/ |

Millions of people have already converted to either Firefox or Opera, so there is no hope for Microsoft to gain back what they have lost. |

I think they will regain some of their market share. Personally, I am happy with Firefox and will stay with it. It is nice to see Microsoft finally stop being lazy and update their browser to conform with the web standards and add in new* features. * New to IE |

Actually, it was more like 5-6 years, but it sure felt like a long time. At least web developers don't need to hack for IE anymore. |

Well, you will need to get SP2, which lots of people are having problems with. And why should we have to hack IE? Firefox and Konqueror are open-source. We can hack those two without getting arrested.

I believe IE6 for both Windows XP and 2000 was released somewhere in 2000 - 2001 and you don't need SP2 to get the basic feature set (ie. no information bar, no pop-up blocker, ect.). Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. By hacking, I meant using things like CSS hacks and Javascript to get some things to work in IE such as transparent pngs. I wasn't talking about the browser itself. I think that IE7 is good in the sense that it adds new features. Web standards conformability is always welcome as well. The RSS reader and the Quick Tabs function are good. Microsoft also added in a Phishing filter. I haven't gotten a chance to try out the filter yet so I don't know how effective it is. The bad part about IE7 is that its UI has gotten confusing for the average user. I don't think that the average user can figure out that clicking "alt" will show/hide the File menu. That isn't obvious, even for a poweruser. Also, customizing the toolbars is practically impossible to do. Microsoft needs to clean up their UI before release if they want to compete with browsers like Firefox and Opera that have nice and clean UI's. |

Well actually, IE7 is compatible with only XP SP2 and up. As far as Microsoft is concerned, IE6 SP1 is as far as Win2k and below users are going. Firefox is universal, and compatible all the way down to '95.

You aren't reading my post clearly enough. I was talking about IE6, not IE 7 in the portion of my post that you quoted. |
