Black Worm Virus

I just wanted to let you know for members that don't have anti-virus.

ZoneAlarm® Antivirus will protect you against the BlackWorm (MyWife.d) scheduled to attack this Friday, Feb. 3, 2006

Severity: High Risk

BlackWorm is a new and potentially destructive Internet worm currently making its way around the globe. It is infecting users via e-mail and is scheduled to destroy all Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, PSD and ZIP files on Feb. 3.

If you upgrade to ZoneAlarm Antivirus before Feb. 3, it will detect and remove existing BlackWorm infections and prevent future infections.

Free ZoneAlarm Firewall will not protect you from BlackWorm. Only ZoneAlarm premium products (ZoneAlarm Antivirus, Anti-Spyware, PRO, and Internet Security Suite) will protect against the BlackWorm.

That is what I got from ZoneAlarm.

Sounds like a load of mullet to me, and a cheesy attempt to get people to upgrade to paid software.
Mind giving a link to the page you got that info from?
I don't see it anywhere at Zone Alarm's site, and those links you gave are worthless.

Anyway, the simple and obvious way to avoid a problem with this blackworm thing is just to not install it on your system, but failing that, any anti-virus should deal with it if you've updated your definitions recently.

What McAfee said: http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_138027.htm

And this is what MS had to say:
Microsoft Corp. issued an advisory Tuesday warning customers about the worm, which affects most versions of its Windows operating system.
Users should be safe if they have the latest anti-virus software or if their computers are set with limited privileges, a common setting in larger organizations. They are vulnerable if they, like many small business and home users, leave their computers set with full administrative rights.
Users should check the date on the computer. The worm hits the third of every month, so if the computer’s local calendar settings are off, Hypponen said, files may be destroyed sooner or later, even if the computer is never turned on Friday.

I got that Zone alarm info from a email from zone alarm so I have no link sorry.

Phrank it was on the local and national news tonight.

I got the same email from Zonealarm (I use their firewall) and did a Google search. Found lots of info there too. There are a lot of free virus protections out there. Avast is very good.

Yeah, Zone alarm would love the excuse for people to upgrade, but other than that i don't even use Zone Alarm.. i might avoid coming online tomorrow. (Probably won't care & come online anyway)

With the viruses that are going on now, I think it’s safe to say don’t open any forwarded e-mails.

Should Norton Free Trial be able to handle this?
