Optimuim Online notice

The notice is:

Virus Alert: W32.Blackmal.E@mm

Systems Affected:
Windows 9.X, ME, NT, 2000, XP, Server 2003

W32.Blackmal.E@mm also known as Kama Sutra or MyWife is a mass emailing worm that will also spread across remote shared resources. The worm will attempt to disable security-related and file sharing software in addition to destroying certain file types on the infected system. Distribution of the worm is rated as low to moderate, however the destructive nature of the worm is worthy of concern. The worm is programmed to delete files on the 3rd of each month.

Almost all antivirus vendors have definitions available for this threat. Optimum Online highly recommends all users run a complete scan of their computer systems with the latest virus definitions to ensure they are not infected.

Solutions:

Do not run attachments or click on links in strange or unsolicited email.
Run and maintain an antivirus product. It is important for users to update their antivirus software on a regular basis. Many antivirus packages support automatic updates of virus definitions. We recommend using those automatic updates when available. Common antivirus vendors are noted below.
Use extreme cautions opening any email attachments with the extensions: .exe, .pif, .scr, .bat, .com, .lnk, .hta, or .shs. These files have the potential to contain malicious code that may infect the user's PC with a virus or damage the user's system.
Check for security updates for your operating system and email software with the manufacturer.
Install a software firewall that will warn you of software that attempts to gain network access.
