What would you do if you found a board that copied your board descriptions word for word, as well as your rules? |

Contact the Administrator of the board, ask them to take it down and show them proof that it's mine (I know, pointless). Then from there see if they comply or not and if not report them through the IF report abuse system.

I have never had that happen to me but I have seen it happen twice. Once on msn and the 2nd time at Invisionfree. Know what? People do notice and usually avoid the copy. Most people like places that are original. Why be at 2 identical forums? It would be boring. |

A board I was on was in a similiar situation. Well, we tried talking to him. The admin even reported him. A month later, still nothing, so the admin got about 20 people and went and just spammed the heck out of the board. Nobody wanted anything to do witht he board after that, considering doHTML was enabled and it was my specialty. |

I have to say spamming a board, regardless of what it's done, is a rather low tactic. Hardly a method worthy of a good administrator (and it says a lot about those who help). In fact organised spam is a violation of the TOU, so any of you who do this are actually just as bad, if not worse, than the person who copied your board in the first place. :/ Two wrongs do not make a right. ![]() Sorry but something had to be said. I don't want people promoting this sort of behaviour, or making it seem like it's a good thing to do. If anything, I would advise you first contact the owner of the forum (yes, this may be futile but don't ignore it). If the owner refuses, then I'd probably recommend sending in a support ticket, so you can fully explain what's going on and get advice (every situation is different). |

Its happend before to me ![]() First, you join the forum and ask if they would remove/alter what they took from your forum. And if they don't, then you report the forum ![]() Well, thats if you wrote your rules off hand and didn't rip them yourself, after all, if you wrote the rules from scratch, they are your own rules giving you rights to them. As for spamming a site that ripped stuff, pah, thats just low :/ |

I would think that anyone who chose the spamming/harassment method of dealing with such a situation would feel pretty stupid when their own board gets shut down, but I guess it would prevent further worries about the board's content being stolen. Other than asking them to remove it (nicely at first, since many people aren't even aware that copying something like that is against the rules, and considered rude, in general), and reporting them if that fails, you could always post about it on your blog or try to get people to mention it in their sigs at any forums you go to or something, to publicly embarrass them. Most people aren't all that interested in having others think they're thieves/losers/etc if they can avoid it. And, I guess, as a bonus, if others decide to spam/harass them for it on your behalf, as long as you've not asked or directly encouraged them to do so, you wouldn't have to worry about it. |

Yeah but theres one problem, mentioning it might get them more members, we all know how many people there are who think its easy to get to be a mod on a "n00b forum" :errm: So asking nicly yes and reporting if it fails. But putting it in sigs and blogs might benifit them O.o Unless you're good with words. |

I guess that's true. It could gain them a few more members, but I'm not sure I'd care about that, especially since those new members would be people that don't mind knowingly joining boards run by thieves/losers. :/ |

but all i was saying is that if you create a forum that is truly yours from the ground up, then you can hold your head up high and take pride in the fact that you didn't copy anyone and that your place is original.. you know? for example, i dont use premade skins on my forum, because i know that somewhere, someone else is using the exact same one, and it takes away from my board's originality.. so i make my own, so that my board is even more original.. understand? You don't have to delete your board, and i apologize if you think i yelled at you, that was not my intention.
