This forum saids that I can give Invision free my complains and feedback. So I'm doing it. If anyone has a problem with what i'm about to post, well this is only duffman business.

Look, First you removed the advertising forum, then u created an advertising forum for server 2 forums and u remove it. then create a promotions technique which it's useless becasue everybody knows alredy how to get members.

And now we have to pay you for advertising? What's the deal with that? Every forum host at their support forum has advertising for their members for free. even the crappy proboards which it's more active than this board, has an advertising forum. What's the point for payin for advertising? If I want to pay for advertising I can use the pay service of Alta vista or the other engines which can place my forums in their top searches.

I don't see the point in making us pay for advertising, fees should go to premium services not advertising.

Just givin my two cents, sorry for this, But I really needed to get this off my chest.

The advertising forum filled up with spam, spam, spam. Everyone bumped their topics, and it really just wasn't useful.

The s2 forum was only temporary to help s2 boards get back on their feet.

The promotion techniques will be implemented in our new website and moved off the forum.

This is simply a way for you to:

  • gain members
  • announce something new on your forum
  • advertise your website (or something other than a forum)
  • and sell services like scripting

This forum is different than any that have come before because it is not limited to forum ads. You can advertise anything.

Thanks for your comments. We'll take them into consideration when looking at how we should treat this new forum.

The board directory advertises your website. I have seen it work great for boards. The new categories make it easier than before to get many hits from the directory.

As for this new forum, it came about after I saw 6 or more topics in a row about being affiliates in the trash can.

This is a support board (the directory is made for advertising). It will either have no links to boards/websites or a limited few who wish to pay a small fee, so the logical thing to me seems like to give the opportunity. The money made will end up improve your board.

InvisionFree's purpose is to provide as much as possible for free. Why not let people purchase something that will directly help you.

I support this idea of Duffman's.
The *board directory* is for free advertising. This new advertising forum is for advertisements from EVERYONE. Heck, Google could go in there and advertise!
So, there's the explanation, watered down for n00bs.

I doubt the new forum is perfect and thus complaints and suggestions are welcome.

To prevent spam in an advertising forum, couldn't the permissions just be tweaked to make it impossible to reply? Just make it so people can start new topics, then if they make more than one topic about it, then trash it.

Lets be honest, whatever way this is done, not everyone is going to be happy, so just accept the way it its.

I was willing to monitor and kick out cheaters in the advertising forum because it was a limited time. The point of the advertising forum was to help out the s2 boards. This is a support board, we should be spending time offering support not spend 3-4 hours a day trashing spam posts in an advertising forum.

I've put 2 of my Server 3 boards in the directory no problem...

I fully support what Administration are doing here and will possibly use this service in the near future. I will echo whats been said. This is for support and the moderators want to spend as much time helping people solve problems with their board, rather than checking up on what topics need to be approved...

I'm going with the IF Gods on this one--I mean, free advertising would be great, but bandwidth & servers cost money. I'd much rather watch a few people shell out cash to advertise and--perhaps--not have as much advertising potential for myself than watch IF go down the tubes.

Besides, you said it yourself, pikapi.

If someone's really serious about upping membership, there are countless ways to do so--a special board is really not necessary.

To further point out the success of this feature I'd like to use Unknown12's board as an example. Prior to having his board listed in the advertising forum he was gaining approximately 1-2 members a day. Now less than two days later he's received over 40 new sign ups. Looking at the number of views that the advertising post has received already shows that almost 1 out of every 3 people that saw the post signed up for unknown12's board. Not too bad in my opinion. If we allowed everyone to spam advertising posts, the effectiveness of each one certainly wouldn't be 1 in 3. At the same time it is also helping the average user looking for interesting boards. Anyone willing to pay to have their board listed probably isn't going to list a board they don't plan on supporting fully. Through this new feature all of InvisionFree's users can easily find quality boards to join. Anyway enough from me, and I doubt you'll hear any complaints from unknown12.
