What do you plan on doing is the question I ask you. Then from the answer to that question will result in the programming language you should start with. |

I suggest you learn PHP (and an SQL language, probably MySQL) first. I did. Javascript is much more useful when you have PHP programs to use it in. For example, in my forum system: I programmed it in PHP, and when I learned JS I implemented BBCode buttons. They'd be pretty useless without the PHP scripts first. Unless you want to be a ungly muffin and program IF board codes. Then you should only learn JS. But you know what we DON'T need? Any more InvisionFree coders. |

there is nothing wrong in Coding for forums... as for your "But you know what we DON'T need? Any more InvisionFree coders." you are partly right. we dont need anymore inexperienced coders. we need coders that know advanced coding. there are always room for those. get your facts straight before you blurt out stupid things ![]() like fearkiller said . find out what you want to do and than choose from there. |

We already have Dan T and RedCrazyKid. They make all the good IF codes. There are other people who are just as advanced at JavaScript as they are, but few of them are as creative as well. These two make useful codes, most of which are advanced. Unfortunately, most JS coders who are just as advances have no creativity and make CL0CKZ!!!1 and OMFG FULLY-CUSTOMiZABLE MARQUEES!!!. EDIT: haha didn't realize you were Dan T/HolySavior. |

lol xD i see no one knows who i am...o well...>_< Anyway, you should try and learn JS first. You do not need hosting and what not with trying to learn JS and code demos. Plus, JS is a real hands on language. You learn by looking and experimenting with other codes, not reading books. Although, i do suggest you get a nice reference book to start out with. Something like the O'Reilly books should do

meh JS sucks but if you learn regular expressions it will be easier for you to code in PHP. Enough said. |

You have to know. Would you rather make things like calculators, fancy text, clocks, etc. then go learn Javascript. If you'd rather make things like blogs, message boards, guestbooks, etc. then learn PHP and MySQL. |

Yeah, ask yourself, what was your inspiration to begin coding? There had to be something there

That has to be the most stupid thing someone said in this topic... just because you dont know that language doesnt make it suck. Does Ruby on Rails suck because you dont know it? Does ASP suck because you dont know it? Does Java suck because you dont know it? Your opinion is fine but you need to think about what you write before you pass judgement on something. There are alot of things JS can do alot easier than other languages and vice versa. FearKiller has to be giving the best advice here. about what to learn and i agree with him. Javascript is good for certain things but remember it is client side and can always be disabled where as php is server side and can not be disabled unless your host is down There are always pros and cons to think about but before you decide what to learn, decide on what you want to make or will have fun making. than decide the language

I learned javascript first, i am now doing PHP. It isn't too hard to learn when you already know javascript. Javascript is pretty similar to PHP. |

arguably the most stupid, however I feel I should at least inform you that he DOES know JS and has in fact done some very advanced things in the past. However I just finished talking to him and he maintains that despite the know-how, he still is of the opinion that JS does suck and the only purpose it has other than very select things is a jump to PHP. |
