JPG Error Thingy...

When my computer was messed a couple of months back and it didn't let us put anything onto CD, I saved all our holiday photos and videos (copied and pasted them) onto my USB flash disk. Then I copied and pasted them onto my Mp4 player, as another back up thingy.
Soon after, we had to format our computer but I was ok because I thought the pictures would be on my USB pen/Mp4 player. However, when I looked at the files on there, most of them wouldn't open in windows picture and fax viewer, paint, Photoshop or anything. I got some of the photos back from a friend who I'd sent them to but a lot of them I probs won't ever see again if I can't fix the files.
When I try opening them in windows picture and fax viewer, it says no preview available and paint and photoshop tell me they can't read the file and it's an invalid format or something.

Is there any way I can recover the lost files?

Up load them to FileDen, Photobucket, Image shack that should show you the picture so you can paste it into paint.

Can you right click on the file and click properties and say what the file extension is?

Sometimes an MP3 Player can mess with the format of a file, for example a friend of mine saved some of mine & his work onto his MP3 player, when we came to use that copy it all came up in "Y"s -- so we figured the MP3 Player were trying to format it to play (because this problem kept recurring).

However, with your USB Flash Stick it should be fine... but as you say it isn't. So I suggest you try opening it in PhotoShop and 'Save As' the image in .JPG (whether the image displays or not, leave it and save as), hopefully this will reset the format. If that doesn't work then try it on someone else’s PC just to check whether it's the image itself or your PC, from there let us know.

bd0206, Photobucket tells me:
Upload Error

Invalid file for upload.

The other image hosting places have similar thingies.

YoRone22, Type of file - JPEG image.

Dopey, I figured it could be something like that about the Mp4 player but as you say, the USB pen should've been OK.
I can't open them in Photoshop so that I might be able to save them. I tried it on my cousin's computer, it's the same there.

:(

Have you tried viewing the images on another computer?
