Slow Boards; Note:I'm not reporting a server problem

There's a thread where we were discussing that some of the boards seemed to be running slow lately.

I posed a question wondering if it mightbe a server problem. I wasn't reporting a server problem. I thought maybe someone would suggest deleting images or old posts from the board to speed it up or suggest a code to add or delete from the board.

So, can we please have a thread where we can discuss this, just in case it isn't a server problem?

Or does a slow board always mean that it's a server problem? If that's the case and it's the only explanation, please say so for those of us who are not so savvy.

I felt disrespected that the topic closed without a better explanation from the mod.

Please understand that I'm not trying to be a trouble maker, I'm just looking for answers to a problem that my members are concerned about.

I looked through the Codes list until my eyes crossed and I've been scanning the board for answers for the past few days.

It seems to me that those of us with questions -- even though they've been answered many times over the years -- should be allowed to post a new thread about said question. We don't all have time to read everything on the board, which I'm sure you understand. It isn't easy to know what to do with so much information all over the place.

I enjoy using InvisionFree's board very much. I scouted around lots of other free boards and even had been paying for a board previously by another company or server or whatever it's called. :-/ And I believe InvisionFree is the best. I know the mods and admins work hard to be fair because I have been an admin on a board with over 300 members. So I can appreciate when things are misunderstood / miscommunicated.

Every time a mod closes a thread for that reason I always wonder if anyone actually knows anything about the problem. What happens when there is a problem that Brandon doesn't actually know about? It would be locked and he would never find out about it. Saying that Brandon will know about every possible problem seems unlikely if you ask me.

Hi,

We close the "server down" topics just because they always end up in a froth of spam.

We are aware of the other problem, the one where people say their server is running slow. This is different from the server being down, and I recognize that.

Usually, server slowness is caused by (in order of likelihood):
1) Codes you have added to your board
2) Images hosted off-board
3) Network troubles (backbone)
4) Server troubles
5) Complex / long pages on your board (heavy graphics etc.)

In this case, the server slowness appears to possibly be network-related.

The 'slowness' I was reporting is definitely not based on that. It's only for a couple of weeks that I started to get blank screens when trying to load the board. (Page not found, Connection timed out, that sort of errors). Had it been caused by codes/images, I would have noticed earlier, since I changed absolutely none of them for quite some time now. And, as I also said, z9 seems the most affected - when I can't load my board, I check two others (on z9) - they don't work either, but all other boards on z1,3,7,10,11,13 and 15 work. I checked them more than a few times.

I normally don't post in these threads but this one caught my attention. I'm on S9/Z9 server and daily I have trouble loading my board. I have to agree with "byeee" on this one. Sorry :(

Actually, that does sound like a network problem to me.
The server obviously isn't down, because if it where, there would be several topics about it. Instead, it seems to be just a few people. (From what I've read anyway.)
There have been problems like this before where a number of people who used the same ISP / group of ISP's all had problem reaching one server.
Maybe our beloved staff can pinpoint what the problem seems to be if those having problems connecting to S9 could post what ISP they use / where they live?
(So something like AOL, Texas or whatever.)
Do note that, if this really is an ISP problem, IF will not be able to do anything about this.

If you have an external code that's uplinked into your forum, as was explained in a topic I read on here, it would make your forum slower.

@Jory: The same happens to some of my members... some might not notice it since it's a short period and they might not be on in that while, but it's been reported at least three times. Problems with ISPs in the UK, Canada and Romania... and at the same time? I wouldn't count that as an option.

Edit: Just as I was posting this the server went unavailable for about two minutes.

I heard from Stephen, the software slows down at certain times of the day, and Stephen said that he was told by Brandon. :)

I think its because its old software, and the new servers don't want to settle with it.

Do not worry. That should be solved shortly once Zetaboards is released :)
