I have an oddity here. I checked to see what a members IP was and then looked it up online to see if he lived where he said he was. When I confronted him about it I had him sent Here, well the IP address that he showed me from there was completely different form what the forum software showed. What is up with this? |

It's possible that he posted/registered from an alternate location. Work/school/library. Which is why I hope the Zetaboards offer a better tracking system for IP addresses. --If I querry a user name I want ALL IP addresses that this user has logged in from to be listed. --If I querry an IP address I want ALL user names that have logged in from that IP address to be listed This is a security feature I believe many board owners will find useful. Perhaps someone (moderator/admin) will PM me and tell me 'Yes this feature will be available on zeta.) If not... spam your local IF admin/moderator until they realize the demand for such a simple feature. =P |

Doubt it. As I should have mentioned, He claims to live in Indiana, and the IP from danasoft shows that, while the IP address in the forum shows him as living as CT. A 833 mile difference. |

My IP address claims I live in Birmingham, a place I have never visited. This user could be using a proxy server, to get around blocks at school/work. I don't understand why you wanted to look if he lived where he said he did, maybe the user said he lived in Indiana to protect his privacy.

^Could be to get around a firewall at home if his/her parent(s) are teacher(s) and they get free internet access. Even though I kinda doubt that, since my school doesn't block IF sites ^_^. If they did, I'd proxy around it anyways mwahahahahahahahahaha Also, some Internet Services rotate their IP's. |

Yes, he could be bouncing himself off another server. I had to do that for a month and a half when an MMO I play had a DNS issue that blocked 4 majors ISP's 3 of which were major U.S. ISP's. Doing this for your web browser isn't difficult. (Google: Proxy list) That'll get you a list of several hundred proxy IP's. Go to tools: internet options: connections: Lan settings: then input the IP address and port from one you got off that google list, type in a website in your URL and see if you can view the webpage. Keep in mind...your connection to these websites will be a bit slower since your now bouncing off another server that could be in, lord only knows, what country. Doing that for a program often requires a bit more work and often a 3rd party program to initialize the change in proxy connection. Lots of fun. B-) *edit for a small additive* |

He is also a computer idiot. He know nothing of the internet or gaming. THat I know. His IP is static. From log in to yesterday.. Same one all the time.
Well he has made a lot of claims. Being 40 and serving in the Air Force. However his actions act like he is twenty and knows very little about the air force. So Ijust wondered if he is was on the up and up. We are a team that is very open. We go by first names and the team leader has this guys phone number and they talk all the time. |

First you track him down, then you call him an idiot? Doesn't sound like a 'team' to me. He's could very well be using a proxy to protect his privacy, which you should respect. |

Do you have any idea how much space that would take up? A group of malicious users could overload an entire server just by logging in and out repeatedly and in a short space of time. They could make things easier and leave an automated script on overnight. Even if that doesn't happen, what if your most active users have dynamic IPs? Or worse, you store the same static IP a hundred times over? Even with that aside, why would you want a history of every IP address to ever visit your board ever? Why would you want any IP addresses, for that matter? Per user, only three IP addresses are relevant: The IP address used to register, in order to track multiple accounts; the IP address they're currently logged in with; and the IP used to make a specific post, both of which could be used for banning purposes if an account has been hijacked. Outside that boundary, an IP address would just be a waste of space. As for IP geolocation, a WHOIS on me showed up as being a US resident until February this year. It's not always accurate. |

My IP seems to do weird things too. I don't do anything to it, but it's never shown up right on anything. ![]() And the ONLY location things that have worked are those weird porno ads that some sites have. What's up with that? :-/ But yeah, it would seem my IP has been around the world.

Don't trust those things, they're not always right. I've been told that the location is somewhere on the other side of the world, but that was years ago. I always find http://www.ip2location.com/free.asp that useful for I.P. Tracking, it's normally accurate. |

I have found two completely differnt people share the same ip in two differnt parts of a country. For example, I could be talking to you from Maine, for all I know another ip can be on another site with the same ip posting in Texas. My ip shows me as living in Bradford, yet I don't live in England. Never even visited Bradford. |
