NEW YORK — Dell Inc. (DELL) said it is launching three computer systems, including one notebook, on Thursday that will come with the open-source Linux operating system already installed.

The computers, which come with a price tag starting at $599, will have the Ubuntu 7.04 Linux system, it said.

:O Wow, a Linux break through :P
Good going, however, I'm personally not a fan so I'll be staying away from those Dells. I've also heard there's a catch with Dell but can't remember what it was nor whether it is true or not. :-/

yep, i think it's cool that dell is now putting linux on thier pc's.
Dell's are pretty nice computers, i have one. the catch is probably that their not very upgradeable. I had a heck of a time finding a better video card for mine.

That's pretty good to hear, although old. It has happened (or will happen) recently, but had been announced long time ago. I personally think this is wonderful. People will finally know they have more options other than Windows, and now that they don't have to install it, more people will actually use it :)

Custom Build > HP > Dell

Dell is also going to keep selling XP I believe so people don't have to get Vista.

HP, sure, if you want cheaply made components :r :P

Anyway, great news. Once the big coupons come rolling in for these, you'll be able to get a very affordable buy with a great OS. ^_^

I've got my computer for 2 years now. It's an HP, and it's still working as it did the first day. I love it
