I have been reading a book recently by a grafitti artist called "Banksy" (Robert Banks) He does some incredible art work seriously! I was wondering what your views are on this topic, is it crime or art? You can see his work by clicking the link below.

Banksy

Heres my favourite

Legally, it is a crime in most areas...but depending on how much effort was put into it, and how good it looks, I consider it art. if it's just someone tagging their name or gang name, I would consider it a crime.

I'd also consider it a crime. Few people put much effort into it, and it just looks unsightly. Most of the time it is just youngsters swearing on the walls and insulting their friends.

I agree with Zach. I wouldn't consider it crime if it fits in with the scene and it's well done.

It's simple. If you have permission from the property owner its not a crime.

If not then it's a crime.

I think of it as"art"...some of the best pictures we have from the past, as well as messages showing how people lived, were the graffiti of it's day

I did a little tagging when I was younger, I wasn't really into it though. Only one thingI did still might be around...it was about 10 years ago, which surprised me, because I was 12 when I did it

It's a crime, no matter what. It's against the law. If it's against the law, it's a crime. In some cases, it's both art and crime. In other cases, it's just crime.

Its not a crime if you have permission from the property owner. Not in the U.S

anyway. That'd be like saying if you painted your house its a crime.

I think he was asking what your views on it were, and whether you considered it crime or whether you considered it art, not actually whether it is a crime, even though it quite obviously is.

A blast from the past.

Well lets see, generally with Grafitti, you are defacing some one else's privet property with out their consent, it is going to cost them money to clean up, you could make the Monalesia for all the law and the owner cares, it is still going to cost them money to clean it up. Thus it is a crime, It can only be even at lease remotely thought of art if the owner did it them selfs and/or given consent to it.
