Diaries; So who keeps one?

It's not something i've every bothered with. One of the reasons for that is that I cannot write well at all - by that I mean, I hate writing things by hand. My handwriting is awful and I get really impatient really fast, so i've never been ones for writing long-winded things (think school essays, any form of extended writing, etc.).

Now blogging, i've tried that and basically failed many many many (countless) times before. I must have had at least five failed blogs, the actual number is probably eight or so. To me, that's a little like a diary. Though my problem with blogs has always been that I never want to share any personal stuff online, and making private entries seems pointless to me - half the fun is the comments you recieve (the intelligent ones at least).

If you keep a diary yourself though, good for you. I completely agree with the letting out your feelings in private thing ^_^

I used to keep a dream diary in order to aid dream recall so that I could have a better success rate at lucid dreaming.

I've never really kept a personal diary since I find it too frustrating to sit there and think about the day. Usually I'll chat to someone, write myspace blogs or write hateful poetry if I need to vent my feelings. I don't really post the blogs or poetry since I just tend to delete them and have done with the past. To me it is more important to think about now than to be stuck in to things that are no longer in your control.

I think diaries help those who can organise ideas better on paper, but I tend to like to think about things and then output my final conclusions rather than discuss all options on paper.

Mmm, I have a diary. I've kept one for some time; think the first dates back to '95. Would it count if I revealed one of my entries actually consists simply of "bleh"? :P Tis true. Sometimes there's little to write about so I just write down what I feel at that moment to summarise the day. I use blogging (or did) to share thoughts and put them out there, some not-so private, others...mm, obviously not private but certainly very personal. I tend to use my diaries to keep track of my thoughts and feelings, and given my terrible memory, I find it handy if I have to recall something.

Alternatively, I use short stories for the same purpose. I often promote my feelings surrounding someone or something into a story and allow it to enact as I see fit. A form of therapy you could say. :r Can't say I'd ever be bothered if someone stumbled upon one of them. Unlike my diaries, they're a bit more cryptic and require someone to understand my mindset to figure out the truth behind the masks (or perhaps a figurative form of masque is more appropriate).

I don't think my life is interesting enough to be written down and read at a later date, so no.

I started keeping a paper diary when I was 12. I lost them, when I lost everything else around 6 years ago :-/ . I have a blog, actually I have 2. I started one at 1up, but when I found out about xanga, I moved there. I am on alot of "social" sites, but I keep my blog on xanga

I am prone to starting one with high hopes of completing it. Filling it in with great detail the first night. Then not doing it again. :(

I shall, one day, start writing down everything I can remember doing (whilst I remember doing it) so that when I'm rich and famous and get asked to write my autobiography it will be easy. :P

It could happen.

I find reading through my MSN chat logs a diary. It's amazing what reading back old conversations gets you to remember.
