I have been thinking... Although I am sitting here with Starcraft open, I just can not help but view the forums every now and then (more like 2 minutes of SC and then 30 minutes of foruming.) Why do I spend all this time foruming? :O

Basically how much time you spend on the forums, any forums.

Actually, this would be a great poll.

I think it's like IRC, IM, texting or anything else.
You want to interact with others, you want to share opinions, you want to see others' opinions of your opinions, etc., you want to maybe find some cool stuff or learn something.

What I like about forums and IM (and about the only thing I like about texting) is that you can do other stuff and come back to it, as you said.
For awhile, I didn't have a job and was online for maybe 10 hours a day, though I was always doing other stuff both online and off during that time, as I still do.

Right now, I'm doing a little posting here and a little moderating, listening to music, downloading some stuff, uploading pics and vids off my phone and then downloading them because I don't have the stupid data cable for my phone because the one for my old phone (which is the previous version of my current phone) doesn't fit because the assholes changed the pin design for the sole reason of forcing people to buy new cables, playing solitaire, doing some graphics design, chatting on YIM, occasionally texting an ex-girlfriend who seems horny and frustrated lately, looking at house ads on craigslist.com, waiting for some contact cement to dry, doing laundry (which reminds me, I have to throw it in the dryer), and looking up recipes for making curry from scratch so I don't have to resort to Chinese again.. I think that's it.

But yeah, sometimes you just need to step back, shut down, and relax and just do 1 or 4 things instead of 12.

Lol.

Do you get paid by IF? That would be my dream job I guess, moderating forums ^_^

No, I wish.
Moderating forums, especially ones like this one, can be a royal pain though, especially when a server goes down or something.
While not a dream job for me by any means, it certainly would be convenient to get paid to work here.

My friend and current roommate works from home doing some sort of systems administrating and often sits around in his bathrobe all day (or less if it's hot) and makes something like $150/hour for some stuff, and just 4 times my salary for the rest, while I'm out busting my butt and my back for 10-14 hours a day.
It's a little demoralizing at times.

Yeah, work from home stuff is the way to go.
That way you can sail to the Virgin Islands or something and bring your laptop and you're good to go.
Or one of those jobs where you travel around the world filming stuff or buying merchandise to sell back home.. -_-

I like forums much more than instant messaging. I'm not exactly sure why, but I guess because it's a little more advanced than instant messaging. For example you can start a topic and people from throughout the world give their opinions on the subject, whereas on MSN or any other instant messaging program (other than IRC) you can only talk to those you've added.

Hmm.. no. I guess the reasonings for why each of us does it differs, but me for personally I've learnt lots...mostly from Seth. However I wouldn't be *here* right now had I not learnt a lot from another forum which shall not be named to enable me to have the skills required to be here.. if that makes sense. Plus the other staff rock, and when you have had a stupidly bad day which you want to beat with a large stick you have some very cool people online who share your interests you can talk to.
Plus you can talk to these people while sick with a cold, wearing pyjamas and have extremely bad bed hair and they wouldn't know any different :r

Oh.. and I guess you can do support tickets in your underwear. Not many people can say that.

Nicola, you were one of the last people to help with a forum issue on one of my boards... though, I don't remember which one

If it wasn't for message boards (InvisionFree, specifically) I would seriously have no life. I have very little interests. I have only but a few friends (my best friends are likely my two pet rats). I have no job (currently). I never had a girlfriend. I am very unsocial. So, what do I do? I hop on the internet and hang around various message boards (mainly my own). On weekends, I wake up and get on the computer and stay on it until I hit the sack. Weekdays, I check the computer various times while I'm at school and hop on it when I get home and stay on it until I go to bed. The only time I'm not on message boards is when I'm either doing something with my family, working at school, sleeping, sitting on the pot, or eating (however, I do tend to eat at my computer desk a lot when browsing message boards). On the bright side, I'm always happy to gab with fellow community users and improve my own board. It's just a hobby, that is overly used and addictive. Seriously, when are they going to make a medication for this type of addiction? :frantics:

addiction? hmmmm..sure beats boredom on a lonely cold night. daily participation is the key towards motivating yourself to be more social. being online helped me to crawl out of my shell once before. now i feel more relaxed here. :aaron:

If you want to pay us, feel free. We accept cash, checks, money order, paypal, and all major credit cards. We can also be bribed if you want to spam the forum or post in the wrong place etc. Just make it worth our while. :shifty:

As far as being rude, it's rarely the not being paid part as no one expected that when hired, it's more the way a user comes off sometimes. Extremely polite users who apologize and learn from their mistakes but don't act so kind you want to throttle them are probably the ones staff prefer to deal with. People who want things done their way and quickly tend to rub staff the wrong way. And people who play dumb and aren't just drive me up a wall. That and liars as a few banned members will attest to. :r
