Describe the colour of the "available Windows XP CD" you received. |

There's no cover. It may be double-sided. Has light-brown color to it. The problem, though, is that it seems like all the computers I can access are either public or account-based (which means I have to use the Guest account). So that hinders me from downloading or installing large files or programs. Is there a way to download or obtain an XP CD online? |

What an odd disk. Who did you borrow it from, and are you able to get them to burn a normal CD-R disk with a label on one side and a green on the other? |

It doesn't matter. The CDs are useless. I'm going to get a new setup CD anyway. [UPDATE 11/10/07] After painstaking work over the last couple of hours to create a brand-new Windows XP CD, I finally got home and got something to boot in my computer. I was able to borrow my friend's computer (complete with iso-compatible Roxio program), and it took total mobilization of all kinds of resources to complete the process. I first get a "press any key" message. I pressed a key, and it shows a large blue screen that says Windows Setup at the top. It says on the bottom, "press F6 for third party SCSI or RAID driver installations. I haven't tried this option yet. If I do not press F6, after a few seconds, it turns into "press F2 for Automated System Recovery. After some more seconds, the setup loads files for a while and then says it is starting Windows. Selecting F2 before this happens directs me to insert an Automated System Recovery Disk into the floppy drive, which I don't have. So by waiting until setup loads files, I come to the official nistallation menu.
Now here's the thing: I don't know if I should repair or install. Selecting repair directs me to select the keyboard to use, and then directs me to a black screen with recovery console message.
My friend told me not to use recovery console, and anyway, I don't know what to do with it. The other option, to install Windows, brings me to user agreement, and then "select keyboard" option. Then this options shows:
I stopped here because I didn't want to accidently erase anything. Currently, I don't mind if I have to reformat a hard drive to get the computer working, but I would like to keep all files if possible. Note that I have a C drive of about 80GB and an E drive of about 9GB, the latter from my former Windows 98 computer. I was thinking that it's best to format this and install Windows here. Of course, this means that I would lose my emulator and its ROMs and all saved game files, but it's worth the trade-off if necessary. What should I do next? Is there a way to avoid reformatting the E drive? |
