Really. It is possible. How, you ask? A website called freeipods.com First off, I ask you don't imediatly classify this as a scam. Not all internet chains like this are scams. You see, there is a term in the business world call "multi level marketing". It basically means that you create a pyramid, of sorts. One person tells so many people, and is rewarded. Those people tell their friends and get rewarded as well. You may have heard of such a thing as a pyramid scam. This is similar to multi level marketing in the sense that it is a chain. However, there is is one vital piece of the scam puzzle that is missing from freeipods.com. Your credit card is not required. Simple logic finds that if one has no means of accesing your finances, then one simply cannot scam you. This site works on a middleman basis. Gratis Internet (the company that owns freeipods.com) makes deals with large corporations. They earn what is called a "finders fee" every time they direct a customer to one of these services. Not only that, but they also make money from selling your email to various spam companies. But that's the least of our worries, as the internet holds limitless possiblities for multiple email addresses. Basically, the deal is thus: You sign up, and complete one of their offers. Then, you get 5 friends to sign up uing your referer link. Once they complete an offer as well, then you get an iPod. Fairly simple, and considering the amount of money they recieve from all these signups and email addresses, it is not impossible for them to give away an iPod to people who finish this daunting task. I mentioned that there is a way to use this service without ever giving them your credit card, and hence, no risk for a scam. What you need to do is to make sure of the following things: 1: That you sign up using a paid email (such as AOL, MSN, Comcast, or another ISP provided address) 2: That you are completely honest in your mailing address, and not try to make multiple accounts 3: That you make sure to to all of this in Internet Explorer, as Firefox or any out of the ordinary browsers can mess up the process 4: That you also make sure to follow the sign up links given by freeipods.com on their offers page. Going to the main sites of the services and signing up will NOT get you iPod credit. 5: That you choose the eBay offer, and bid on one item (it does not even have to be a winning bid) eBay, unlike the other services, only requires a credit card if you use a free email like Yahoo, hotmail, or Gmail. Sign up using an ISP or paid address, and your credit card never comes into play. In 1-3 days, depending on how busy they are, you will recieve credit for your bid. There is an option for the impatient, and those who trust the opinions of the posters at Penny-Arcade. The Ancestry.com offer gives instant points towards your iPod, however they do need a credit or debit card. Its quite easy to do, and can be canceled literally minutes after you sign up and get iPod credit. All you need to do is call 1-800-262-3787, and cancel. All in all, it seems to be a very legitamite service. I ask that if you use my referer link ( http://www.freeiPods.com/default.aspx?referer=7226570 ) that you please follow through on the offers. If this topic is better suited for the Computing and Tech forum, a Moderator may move it at his/her discretion. thank you for reading, and I hope all who give it a little of their time recieve their iPod. |

Well, not everyone needs 20 gigs of songspace. And I guess they like the pretty colors. heheh. Oh, and these new 20 gig pods are the updated Generation 4 version. You can tell by looking at the picture, it has the new shuffle songs option, and the mouse over description says it has the new battery life, and click wheel. Plus, it comes with a USB 2.0 cable( as well as a Firewire), you usually need to pay extra for that. |

An iPod sadly would do me no good. My internet is too slow, not to mention unstable to download any music (of course I mean legally!), and I could just put my existing cds onto it but I don't think it's worth it when I can just use my discman. |

Why not? A 20 gb iPod would let you take all your cds with you at the same time. Just rip them and transfer. Plus, having an iPod is like a sign of coolness these days. Makes you more hip.

I just keep my cds in the car and it works fine though, it'd be throwing money away just so I can leaves cds at home. I don't care if makes you look hip, that's no reason to toss away the money that otherwise would be going towards next years tuition. |

O_o The whole point of this thread is to let the masses know that you can get an iPod for free. So you can keep your tuition cash and look hip!
