Nice idea and i know what it means but i personally find it a little disrespectful to those who died on "that day"

Devious!!!!

You're right.
Why not build a cemetary?

It's like saying "oh who cares, you're dead now! Let's build a building over your lost corpse!" :/ (Not trying to be funny)

Because someone owns the land and needs to make money off of it. The World Trade Center was in a prime spot for real estate and business.

Capitalism beats out dead people. Sorry.

@jeanhub: Somewhat of one, I guess you could call it that.

No offense to anyone who it has meaning to, but I find that kind of...Ugly.  Or really ugly actually.  Guess it's the thought behind it that matters though.

I agree...it's pretty...err, hideous. :/

The original design of it was for it to look like this:

However, Libeskind' (the creator) didn't have enough funds to complete that design. To be honest with you, I wouldn't call it "hideous"; when he designed it his intentions were to create something in a memorial effect.

He Wrote

To commemorate those lost lives, I created two large public places, the Park of Heroes and the Wedge of Light. Each year on September 11th between the hours of 8:46 a.m., when the first airplane hit and 10:28 a.m., when the second tower collapsed, the sun will shine without shadow, in perpetual tribute to altruism and courage.

He also said this:
He Wrote

The sky will be home again to a towering spire of 1776 feet high, the Antenna Tower with gardens. Why gardens? Because gardens are a constant affirmation of life. A skyscraper rises above its predecessors, reasserting the pre-eminence of freedom and beauty, restoring the spiritual peak to the city, creating an icon that speaks of our vitality in the face of danger and our optimism in the aftermath of tragedy. Life victorious.

Now THAT is hideous...It's like a football stadium.
It's also even more disrespectful...
That's like making a mockery of those that have sufferred.

I somewhat agree with you, however you should really respect the intentions of his creation. Compare yourself with the architecture and then comment on the design, bluntly saying it's ugly isn't really a so called "nice" comment to post, just think how long it would take, think of the planning, the funding, the people, etc.

I, for one like the design, and I think it suits as his way of a memorial. However, the one thing I dislike about it is the same, the whole "Freedom Tower" It just seems like a slightly strange and rather irrelevant name for a commemoration monument, to me at least.

A memorial park like the Vietnam Memorial or WWII memorial would have been much more appropriate
