Well, a while ago I found a brushing tutorial. I then started experimenting about using different brushes, and finally decided to use it for a wallpaper. This would be a sort-of fire background. I then chose an image with Ronald Weasley, Hermione Granger and Harry Potter together from the film Chamber of Secrets. I made a layer behind the characters which was simply splodges with the Soft Round brush at a huge size - it was a sort-of blending technique. Later on when I came to edit it again, Casper (from another forum, very good GFX artist and role-player) was very helpful and taught me a feathering technique many people use for blending. (the splodges were used on Ron only, the feathering was done on the others)

For the colours, I used a Colour Balance (Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Colour Balance. Or just Ctrl+B but that won't get you a layer, just the ffect) layer to get a fiery effect - but it was dull and bland, so a Brightness/Contrast (Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Brightness/Contrast) layer was applied to brighten it up.

Anyway, the font used for "Harry Potter" was called Harry Potter (surprise surprise) by Pheonix Phonts from DaFont, and 911 Porscha for the Hogwarts Revolution (my website/forum) text.

Sword of Enflamatia (large 1024x768)
Sword of Enflamatia (small 800x600)

Ronald Weasley (Ron, played by Rupert Grint, age 15/16, in the movies) is the boy on the left with red hair and broken stick (wand).
Hermione Granger (played by Emma Watson, age 15, in the movies) is the girl in the middle.
Harry Potter (played by Daniel Radcliffe, age 16, in the movies) is on the right, holding the sword.

The three of them are approximately 12 or 13 years old in that image. Oh, and thanks to my older brother Ankit for the name. (Well, he mentioned the "sword" part and considering "enflamement" isn't a word, I improvised)

Comments appreciated. Oh, and I know I sound rather full of myself for saying this, but I'm currently using the small version (I have a 1024x786 screen but it looks so much better in the center, don't you agree?) for my wallpaper. It'd brighten up my day if someone wanted to use it, but that's optional. BTW am i allowed to link to Casper's profile? It's on another forum and I'm not sure whether it'll be seen as advertising or not.

The cutouts are very bad quality and need to blended into the background more. The background has a few ugly lines in where the brush peices end and start, i would recomend fixing them. The background also has very little depth to it and the texture is really bad. The text is also not that bad, but on the Harry Potter text the border is quite choppy in places. Keep trying though.

Steve -: Yep, I'm bad at cropping. I suppose a bit of brush-blending would make it look better. I don't really think those lines are ugly - I quite like them. I can see what you mean about the depth - it looks flat. The border's supposed to be choppy on the Harry Potter text.

Amberon -: yeah, as previously stated I should try to blend things by brushing. What do you recommend?

Many thanks for the advice though. I'll get to work ASAP.
