Welp. I get a laptop in about 1/2 a year but can't decide between some brands. Dell, IBM, and Compaq. Compaq seems to have the best value but people are telling me that Compaq's suck. I don't know which way to go. Help please :P

PS: If you have a Compaq tell me what you think of its quality...

My dad's laptop is a compaq and seems very reliable, he has had his for about 5 months now and it is working as well as the day he got it.

I have an IBM, it was great to start off with but now I don't use it. Good quality, though, ;)

I'm going to get either a laptop or desktop PC in about 12 months. If I do get a laptop I will get an Emac, they seem to be a little better.

I've had a compaq presario2100 for about almost 2 years, and it sucks ***! The battery life sucks, one of my keys broke off after some use, some pixels on my screen are messed up, and they have horrible service. I ordered my labtop with 256MB and 40GB harddrive, and they sent me one with 192MB and 27GB HDD. I paid for shipping and handling to have it in one week, and it took them 2 and a half weeks to send it. They charged the money on the second day to, and when i called them to ask what was going on and why i hadnt gotten my labtop and tried to cancel, they said they couldn't cancel it cuz they had already made some movement on it.

Compaq = wrost ever!

Its all about custom made. not brand made now.

The IBM Thinkpads are great. I know they don't look very nice but they are extremely reliable. My dads work did issued all staff with Compaq laptops, but they were getting loads of problems with them. They now all use Thinkpads and have no problems.

It really depends what you are going to use if for. If you want a good gaming laptop be prepared to pay quite a bit.

I have a Compaq Presario R3000 and its one of the best i have used ever. I have had it for about half a year now and its still running fine only had one problem and that was my fault for getting a virus. I bought mine from PC World so i got it within 30 mins of entering the shop.

If i ever buy a new one it will defo be a compaq no question about it.

I have a compaq pocket pc. It's ok. The first one I had started having touch screen problems where part of the corner became inexcessable to a stylis. They repaired and returned it to me quickly and at no cost (warenty). I like it, but I've heard Dell is better

I have decided on a fairly high end Dell XPS. It is a great PC for Gaming and multitasking. It comes with 3.4 Ghz HT Technology, 1 Gig Ram, and a 60 Gig Harddrive. I am going to have to work like a madman to get 3k saved up to get that and a printer, and configure my house wirelessly. Hopefully the prices drop by mid next year :P

Alienware are a ripoff, your paying for the brand when you buy their machines.

I hate Compaqs- they are not that great, because there seems to be a lot of gliches in the hardware. I would recommend a Dell if you wanted a cheeper laptop with better quality. If you got the green stuff, go for the AlianWare. Really expensive=awesome machine!
