This morning, I have recieved, while getting my lunch money out of the money container, I received a dollar that had a star on it (see picture)

I've done research and I found out that it is rare, nearly 1/100,000 bills are starred. They are starred because a dollar bill was too poorly made/mutilated and had to be burned. So no two bills can have the same serial number, they placed a star at the end of the replacement note. Anyone have any idea how it is worth?

Did you pay lunch for it? If you did, that was probably stupid!

A dollar?

:D I don't think it'd be worth too much. But there's no harm in finding out. :)

I like it. I'm a collector of wheat pennies, buffalo nickels, 2 dollar bills, and what not. This is now of my interest, and I'll be paying closer attention to the future Washington's I obtain. :D

meh....its like saying having a £2 coin which has a queen with a necklace on it is worth 4 quid.

Its worth a dollar, otherwise it would say a larger amount.

However, if you keep it, it may be worth something in futrue.

well, i looked on ebay for a starred dolllar bill.I found some 2 dollar bills, starred, for 10 bucks. Heres the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...3951560936&rd=1

Also, a one dollar bill starred went for 4 bucks. link:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...3951535445&rd=1

So, either people are that stupid, or these puppies are worth something. Most likely the former though.

apparently, money is also worth more when the serial # are consecutive. Link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...3951870307&rd=1

It can be on any paper money. It';s just more common on the $1.

I collect strange money too. I've got some barr dollars (which are extremly rare). Barr dollars are signed by Joseph Barr and they were only minted in 1963. Extremly rare
