At my school preps weren't the people who necessarily did well in class, wanted to make something of their life, etc. While that may have been the original meaning and may still be some places, at my [high] school prep was more a description based on the clothes and lifestyle they took on usually everything name brand and won't dare talk to someone who doesn't also dress/act that way. The 'preps' who truly wanted to do something with their life, did well in class were usually in some little clique of their own or grouped as a loser or nerd ![]() However, much like grouping goths it doesn't really work to group preps either. Even those that I knew and disliked usually left me alone and I did the same so they never really bothered me. |

I agree, the preps aren't the ones who care. If they don't do well in school, their mommy bails them out. The ones who try to do well in school are the nerds and people in between like me, who care about their future. To me, a prep is someone who only wears designer clothes and expensive stuff, won't have any contact with someone who doesn't dress like them, doesn't really care about school, and consider themselves superior.
Maybe I don't want my personal information accessible to 800,000+ people? And, I'm not going to say my parents don't buy me anything, but if I want something, then I earn my own money shoveling snow and mowing lawns and stuff, they only pay for stuff they think I absolutely need. A prep (at least where I live) is someone who's parents buy them nearly everything they want, even if it's an outrageous price or whatever. Does this clear things up? |

Mr. President please understand, it really is that bad.

Very much so. I agree with both of your opinions. Preps, punks, goths, nerds... all are stereotypical names given out to many people that don't belong in that group. There is no set definition for any category of society, therefore one cannot just label someone . I think we're all talking about the same thing, just conveying it differently. |

Ack what a major discussion!!! I must add to it though LOL I used to be a Goth in that I would only wear the correct black clothing/boots/make up etc but got bored of it when I was about 18/19. However at the time I loved the look (heh heh still do!!) Whatever I wore though never changed who I was, I was still me with my beliefs....the only difference now is I am married with three kids LOL.........but I still wear my biker jacket and DM boots and one look at my forum (in my sig!) will tell you that I have never really changed.........you are who you are....no judgement is necessary.. |

I know exactly what you mean vally :X Anyway, I don't really mind clothing fads. It's not really the fault of the creators that their style is a fad, it's the fault of the people who do it. |

I love it when they do that. I get to laugh at them behind their backs. There's really no fashion that I hate, just certain stereotypical people that I put into groups at school. I just wear whatever I can find in my drawers, so no doubt a lot of people think I look like a moron. |

Couldn't agree more. I was at the mall today...This girl was wearing a super mini skirt that hardly covered her...and knee high snow boots. So tacky. |

How livestrong braces have become more a trend and less a symbol of support for cancer. Seriously, one girl bought and wore 50 to school. They covered her legs and arms. Either she had a lot of support for cancer, or she's a freak.

the most recent fad at my school was having a mcdonalds sticker that said "Hot fresh and ready for you" stuck to your jeans for very obvious reasons. |

we have that, only its called "senior pranks day" where the froshmen girl swimmers are woken up at 5 a.m. and dressed in ridiculous clothes. One girl had 5 colors in here hair, an innertube, one swim flipper thing, and had to carry around a gold fish. if the gold fish died at the end of the day, she had to eat it :X |
