This is a series of discussions involving how to develop certain kinds of boards. In this topic, I will cover the reacreational form of boards, that is roleplays. Generally, the main purpose of a roleplay is to make an interesting theme that encourages imagination, creativity, sometimes an escape from real life, and above all, happiness. One can emphasize several factors in developing such boards: 1: Keep it simple, stupid! Very few people like complicated roleplays. It's common sense. But, you don't want a roleplay to be too simple, or it would not be enjoyable. The trick is to make a system that works reasonably well, and is enjoyed by many people. Of course, simplicity can only get you so far. Sometimes a very advanced roleplay can really turn the tides, and actually be a hit. It's all a matter if they are willing to learn how to play the roleplay. Thus, always keep a close look at how you develop your system, and be willing to accept criticism. 2: Begin small One does not want to expand beyond a certain point. If you advance it too quickly, adding too many additions, ideas, and perks, you will loose players even over that situation. Caution is the key. But there are sometimes those who enjoy massive, instantaneous change. So, know your players before jumping the gun. 3: Deciding a theme Every roleplay has some sort of system. Some more challenging than most. For example, one could make a roleplay based on alchemies, or even an already existant game. The main focus in this matter is to know how those games work. For example, you don't want high-tech in a fantasy roleplay. The problem is deciding the theme. With so many options, it can be a daunting task. If it's too difficult, you can always get personal opinions from others in hopes to uncover a system that would work rather well. 4: Promoting your site The trick is to know your audience. For example, you won't go into a star trek roleplay, offering a fantasy roleplay to them. Or for that matter, you won't go into a military roleplay offering a religion roleplay. Please see the guidelines involving promoting your site for better details. oops... wrong place! me.... will I ever learn? lol. |

But, judging by past threads, none of your roleplays have worked very well. |

This should really go in the Documents section, under Board Management. |

Give the guy some kudos, wilkl ya? Roleplays are one of the ardest boards, to build, to maintain, and to gain members. I have been admins on a ton of roleplays in my time. 6 members on a roleplay is the equivilent of 75 members on a general chat, maybe more. If you don't like roleplay, thats to damn bad. We do: We don't care what you think. |

Yes,roleplays can be one of the trickest boards to maintain. It is a matter of shaping and if you happen not to get it right, your board can die almost instantly. My key is to bring about a plot that is simple yet interesting to my all level rpg boards. And for advance rpg tazzle their minds with a long, detailed, interesting, long played, and juicy plot. Only lost 5 boards in the last 3 years, been working for me! |
