1. not really true... yes the video will be at a lower res... compared to most portable dvd players... but as for mp3's... all comparisons show the PSP's quality is just as good as the IPod... it just wont have as much storage or a great music menu system for music like your average IPod... but the PSP isnt designe'd soley for music... 2. who cares about soundtracks for the psp... ill just save what i want as mp3's on my memory stick... lol 3. well... i dont know how much money that is... about $350 USD is my guess... buts it's only $250 USD in the US... lol... and im able and willing to pay that much... still... the PSP is first and foremost a portable gaming machine... all the other stuff is just extra... ~ Crimson |

the only thing ill give you... is that the DS will be more durable than the PSP... Nintendo is very good at making its systems very durable and last a long time... where as Sony lacks in that department... but as for the most of your comments you add very little to the debate... and show no evidence to support you... <.< *sob... n00bs...* ~ Crimson |

I'll give you 10 reasons why the DS is better. 1. It has picto chat. 2. You can download games from people in the area. 3. Two places to put in games. 4. More Durable. 5. Alarm Clock 6. Your DS knows who you are. 7. Has a touch screen. 8. Has a calender. 9. It even tells you happy Birthday. 10. It has two screens which helps you play the game better. |

does anyone else see any of these as a good reason to show the DS is better than the PSP? i dont... lol 1. Picto chat with who... i only know 2 ppl with a DS... and they never use Picto Chat... <.< 2. Since when? if you mean game sharing... the PSP is gonna have that as well... 3. only cuz you can play GBA games on it... and most ppl have a SP anyways... -- the PSP has nothing before it... so it cant be backwards compatable... 4. ill give you that one... 5. cool... an alarm clock... i have 2 of those in my room... why do i need my hand held to do that... <.< 6. how? it doesnt know me... is their some sort of AI program... is Skynet out to get me? lol just cuz you tell it your name... doesnt mean it knows you... or your not a very deep person... <.< lol 7. so does a PDA... granted it does have some cool features... i dont like the touch screen much... so i get to touch the screen... only one game utilizes it well... 8. does this calendar do anything... or does it just tell the date... if so... thats what my watch is for... even if it has more to it... so what... not many ppl have the need for a calendar... 9. so do my parents... i couldnt give a rats *** if a little silver thing says happy birthday... 10. that is only opinion... i think one large screen helps you play better than 2 small screens... besides... the PSP screen is about as big as both of the DS screens combined ~ Crimson |

Ill have to go with the Nintendo Ds, it looks great, PhotoChat is awesome, good games that have come out not to mention more is coming. Psp is aight, but battery life is a huge issue. It might come out with some nice games, so i might get the Psp also. Note: I got a Nintendo Ds :). |

The PSP does look a lot better with the games too. I mean, it has PS2 graphics, but the DS is more of N64 graphics. |

June 16, 2004 - While Nintendo's DS system will launch in America and Japan this year, Sony's PSP is on hold for American release until next year. Thus, only Japan can claim 2004 as the year of the portable wars, and thus only Japanese videogame publications can have features in which the two portable systems duke it out for bragging rights. Last week's issue of Japanese publication Famitsu ran a feature called K-1: Grand Prix 2004. The "K" stands for "Keitai," the Japanese word for a portable device. The "1" is used as in "No. 1." Put together, it forms a cute pun on the K-1 fighting league, and a pretty interesting feature on the PSP and DS. As part of the feature, the magazine goes over the basics of the two systems, from specifications to special features. This section includes everything from button number comparisons (PSP = 14, DS =11) to weight (PSP = 260 grams, DS = unspecified, but not too heavy). And now for the specification everyone's been waiting for: battery life. Famitsu lists the PSP as having ten hours of continuous play time through the use of a lithium battery that was developed within Sony. The magazine speculates that battery life will change based on the game. Also, the system comes with an AC adapter, so you can play via that as well. We're not sure if Famitsu actually got the ten hour figure directly from Sony or if it's just using numbers thrown out by Kaz Hirai at E3. So, in short, we're still not sure about the battery life of the PSP (or the DS, as the article simply mentions Nintendo's battery know-how as proof that the DS will have long batter life). Moving on, the magazine offers some feedback from its readers with regards to the PSP and DS. As part of its June 4 issue, the magazine asked readers to select a few items that apply to them. Of the three hundred responders, 14.8% checked that they'd like to purchase a PSP, compared to 11.8% who checked that they'd like to purchase DS. Additionally, 13.3% stated that they'd be waiting to hear the price before deciding on the PSP while 9.4% said they'd wait for the price before picking up a DS. 7.1% stated that they think the PSP's design is cool while just 2.3% stated the same for the DS. Elsewhere in the feature, the magazine has some commentary from industry insiders on what we can expect come launch day. Famitsu PS2 editor-in-chief Koji Aizawa (formerly of IGN Xbox, Mr. Aizawa became head of the PS2 magazine in April of this year) comments that predicting the PSP's price is difficult, but he expects the system to cost between 30,000 yen and 40,000 yen. The reason is simple -- the latest cell phones (featuring multiple mega-pixel cameras, broadband download speeds, video chat functionality, MP3 playback, memory card slots and screens with more resolution than Game Boy Advance) cost over 30,000 yen. Meanwhile, Mr. Pin Sui (we think that's his name, although we're not fully sure), the editor-in-chief of Famitsu Cube + Advance believes that the DS price will not be able to stray too far from the Game Boy Advance SP price of 12,500 yen. He believes the system will go from 14,800 yen to 16,800 yen. As for release date, he's not sure if the current rumors of an 11/21 launch date are correct, or if the system will slip into December. Finally, the main event, PSP vs DS! The magazine put the DS and PSP through twelve rounds with seventy-six Japanese game developers and various other members of the game industry. The question asked in each round and the vote totals are below (the winner of each round is in bold): ROUND 1: Which do you think will sell better? PSP = 102, DS = 137, SPLIT = 111 ROUND 2: Which will be cheaper? PSP = 31, DS = 274, SPLIT = 38 ROUND 3: Which will be released first? PSP = 98, DS = 152, SPLIT = 101 ROUND 4: Which will have more interesting software? PSP = 66, DS = 172, SPLIT = 111 ROUND 5: Which design to you like better? PSP = 251, DS = 42, SPLIT = 58 ROUND 6: Which one do you want to carry with you normally? PSP = 134, DS = 69, SPLIT = 147 ROUND 7: Which one do you want to play while on the train? PSP = 140, DS = 91, SPLIT = 119 ROUND 8: Which one makes a better present? PSP = 104, DS = 89, SPLIT = 154 ROUND 9: Which one has more appealing functionality? PSP = 113, DS = 149, SPLIT = 88 ROUND 10: Which will feature more fresh, new software? PSP = 31, DS = 244, SPLIT = 74 ROUND 11: Which one is easier to develop for? PSP = 114, DS = 98, SPLIT = 134 ROUND 12: Which do you want to be left standing in the end? PSP = 84, DS = 156, SPLIT = 112 And the winner is: NINTENDO DS PSP wins five rounds and gets a total of 1269 votes compared to DS's seven rounds and 1629 votes. Luckily, being in America and all, we'll get the winner of this early PSP versus DS battle later this year (and those of us lucky enough to have Japanese connections will be able to get the loser as well). |
