The MAC OSX desktop does look good but if you have Windows then I really don't see the point to download 4 programs just to make your desktop look cool. |

What looks better is personal preference so there is a point. I myself think Windows Classic looks the best No stupid clutter.

Ok. In my house, as my dad is a Graphic Designer, we have 3 Macs (G4, G3, iMac), and we have 3 PC's. Well, the Mac's have NEVER gone down once, yet the PC's... Well... The one in my room has had be re-formatted 3 times. The one in the office is down like 30% of the time. And the laptop is slow as hell. The Macs, they are quick, reliable, stylish. For example. You buy a stock PC. You get a crappy grey/possible black case. Whereas, you buy a standard mac, and its got a very attractive casing. Anyway, back on topic, AlphaRob, this is a nice guide, and could make a PC look very good, but I'm guessing it'll slow my PC down so I'm not going to use it. And it looks AMAZING by the way, but the top navigation bar thing isn't quite the same... |

Then it is you. The only times I have had to reformat is when upgrading a piece of hardware. This is not very often either. The only time Windows has ever crashed on me was when I had a driver issue, but it was easily fixable. |

@Stevie G: Yeah I agree, Windows is a piece of **** to, I know you didn't mean computers, you obviously have no clue about the PC... And if you take the biggest pro of a PC, building your own, you'd be able to get any case you damn well pelase, even build your own if you have the tools. Looks are not everything on a computer that is t obe worked with, not everything is a toy. I still say we need a guide to make XP look like GNOME... I'm[ starting to unfortunatly have to sue it a little more often, and it would be nice to keep the GNOME feel. |

Myr, I actually know a fair bit about PC's. Yes, I know you can get an awesome case etc. for PC's, but what I said was, if you get a basic stock PC, and a basic stock Mac, the Mac would look ALOT nicer. And, have you noticed on TV... If an advert contains a computer, not advertising a computer, I mean, for example, advertising furniture... They always put a Mac there instead of a PC. Why? Because they look better. And anyway, I didn't say it was all about looks... Macs are generally an all round better machine, and they are definitely better for graphics. I don't know one Graphic Designer who prefers PC's over Macs. |

This is a decade old lie. There was once a time when Macs were undoubtedly better for graphics than PCs. This is because Macs had an easy to use and sensible GUI, ColorSync, better mouse support, and were the default machines for desktop publishing and graphic design. Printshops were better equipped to support files from Macs than from PCs. Nowadays, PCs have caught up a great deal, so it's not nearly so black and white. Many artists are still loyal to the Mac from a few years ago, and may advocate Macs without realizing what is available on the modern PC platform. Today a PC would be cheaper and faster.
Artists create good looking stuff so they want a MAC hat they think looks good. Also there are so many people that still say Mac's are better for graphic design many think it is true. Another reason may be because the majority of graphic artists are computer illiterate. |

Then you would know hte PC holds the most reliable OS. Again, who really cares how it shoudl look on the outside? It's the inside, and the true power of the machine that counts. You are a fool if you think Macs are better. the same software are for both lines of computers, so naturally the better performer will be better for hte design. I will sadly admit, Windows is the true continder for graphics design unless you want to go through emulation with wine as many have done. |
