Most people who know about computers know the real definition of a 'hacker' and a 'cracker', it's just it's simpler to discuss hacking and whatnot by using the terms loosly. At least then everyone can contribute with their views.

Thats like saying that we should not care if people use slang in talking as long as we can understand it.

But we're not talking about slang, we are talking about the definitions of a hacker and a cracker.

Most people call crackers "hackers" because they don't know the definitions of both.

It is the same principal!

Maybe it is, but they are two different things.

No one understands you if you post ike that.
It's widely known that there's a difference but people just refer to hackers/crakers/whatever as hackers ;)

Hackers aren';t always good, who do you think makes it so you can use pirated versions of software? Hackers ;)

Not all crackers are bad either, I used to do damage through scripts I wrote, now I use them to inform people of their insecure passwords, which isn't bad or illegal ;)
