If i had my own computer i would try getting it, but since this is our familys comp and i will die if i screw it up i can't. But i do have a few questions: 1.What are the advantages of linux? 2.Is it better for certain things like gaming or graphics? 3.How have you guys experiances with it?(sounds kind of like a napoleon dynamite line to me.) |

1- Secure, reliable, faster, free, can take more load 2- It's better for servers, coding, scripting, and programming, it's faults in only gaming 3- yes, I run it, and mostly on it, I love it |

-It's free. -You can have all win software alternatives for free, and perform equally or better. -There are no viruses/trojans/worms/spyware/adware. -It's way safer -It has grown easier to use with the time, having a learning curve much smoother than before. -You can run win programs thru emulation, and manage your FAT32 & NTFS (windows) HDs. Also with Captive-NTFS you can write to your NTFS Partitions (thanks Arkaine23) -A penguin is better than a multicolored flag
For gaming Windows is the best platform. For graphics it really depends. The GIMP is very good, but may take soem getting used to if using Photoshop for a long time.
My experience is great. Also that movie sucked. |

After working with linux for a few days, I found that its very hard to work on linux all time unless you just do basic computing. Its fun to play around with though. The worst part is installing it. I have really messed up my partitioning in some cases so be careful and back up all your data. If you dont want to take the risk of re-partitioning your hard drive, and can afford a monthly fee, I sugest Linode. They offer a neat paid service that will let you work with linux over the internet. You can install a number of distro's any time you want in miniutes. |
