I have looked at the Premuim page and I was wondering if there is a way to actually buy the IF software used from the boards which would give FTP access to the PHP files, because like at this site, their forums are Invision forums but if you notice when you click on the forums link, it comes up with the URL of http://forums.d2jsp.org/, and I have seen other sites that are like www.sitename.com/forums. How would I go about this, wouldn't I need FTP access to the PHP files for this? |

If you have a website with a redirect feature, you can make the url look like that. However, that site you linked to isn't doing that. They running Inivision Power Board, which is different than InvisionFree. InvisionFree is a heavily modified version of IPB that is hosted for you for free, whereas IPB you have purchase the software and install it on your own server or host somewhere, or have a special IPB host do it for you. |

You're completely responsible for fixing your boards, upgrading them, etc. That's why InvisionFree works so well for most people... we do all the work!

Not really sure I understand your question. :/ The admin cp for IPB is quite diffferent than for IF. Much more complex. And you have to do all the updating yourself. |

Well with updating, what I meant, do they provide the code for all the updates, like how someone, I think it was Jared, said that in v2.0 there would be Limited ACP access, do you have to do that yourself and make the code for it, or do they actually provide the code for it? |

All upgrades/updates (including installers and upgrade files) can be found at http://www.invisionboard.com/ by downloading the "Full Package" (i.e. NOT the "Core IPB Sources" package). In other words, if you download IPB v1.3.1, make sure you select "Full Package" (next to Download contents). The installer file is included in /1p3p1Final/upload/sm_install.php. You ONLY need to run this file if this is your first time installing IPB. The upgrade files (and other tools) is included in /1p3p1Final/Tools_and_Scripts/ Documentation (and upgrade instructions for 1.1.x) is included in /1p3p1Final/Documentation/ Generally, all you do is upload (and overwrite) the files that need updating and then run the upgrade file. Remember, the files that you need to upload and the upgrade file you need to run varies depending the version you are upgrading from. For example, upgrading from IPB 1.1.x to IPB 1.3.1, you'd upload ALL files in /1p3p1Final/upload/ EXPECT FOR conf_global.php and sm_install.php (because the board is already installed and you need the settings you set in conf_global.php in tact). Then just upload and run upgrade5.php, and afterwards, upgrade6.php. Bottom line (which would answer your question), yes, the updated code is provided. All you need to do is follow the instructions/documentation to upgrade the board. NOTE: IPB 2.0 DOES NOT include upgrader files for upgrading from IPB 1.3.x to IPB 2.0. The upgrade files WILL most likely be included once IPB 2.0 reaches PDR 4 release. |

Thanks Lights. Basically I was trying to find out the advantages of the actual IPB over IF. Though I looked at the prices and the site I am working with, I don't think we could keep it up and running finacially, we are still working on the actual site and getting a domain. Thanks for all your help. |
